Svi has taken 5 shots and people keep calling him the Machine

Sasha shot 1451 shots and though he ultimately was a disappointment... he did shoot 44% one year and 37% for his career.

It's too early to predict if Svi will match his Kansas form but he shot 44.4% from three for the team with 2nd most difficult schedule, and was the highest of any regular in division 1.

To extrapolate that he will become Sasha after 5 shots is completely ludicrous

For one thing, even if all he did was become Sasha... it would still be a 37% career shooter, which is someone we could use... but his college career foreshadows the numbers of someone like Ray Allen, Steph, or Korver.

44.4% against the 2nd hardest schedule in division 1 isn't a fluke.
At worst, I think he will be a good sub off the bench.

It's baffling that some of you want to reject him after 5 shots when we are literally starving for service from three.

I don't believe he will get the consistent minutes this season to find his rhythm and develop consistency with his 3 pt shot. If anything wait till further in the season when minutes possibly open due to injuries, resting players or trades occur.

I agree with your assessment, but I'm confused by lack of scientific method by some who believe Lance will become a bonafide star after 900 shots shooting 30% from three and Svi will become a bust after 5 shots.

Obviously Lance has played well, and displays some entertaining street ball moves, but statistics don't bear out long term success.

I'm not saying Svi will definitely become great, but statistically speaking the potential is there and should be explored.

Again so many confuse swagger and flair for actual skill.

Drives me nuts.

I guess the one positive factor to consider with improvement in Lance's 3 pt shot is he supposedly changed his shooting stroke over the summer. I haven't done a before/after comparison but so far the stats are in his favor.

I have not read all the comments but no not a star.

In regards to Svi and his 5 attempts I believe he will be fine after he settles in.

I don't heavily consider college credentials/stats but more on their skill set (shooting form, athleticism, handles, other factors) and Svi is average to above average in this respect with possible elite shooting and that for me is an NBA player. Just 21 and still developing.

2 caveats.
I am a Zu supporter so take my analysis with a grain of salt lol.

I believe I was the first to mention in the draft thread we should consider drafting Bonga even at 25. Saw the talent in the little video that was available. Felt similar to how you feel after summer league with all the negative comments. But look now. Just got to be patient.

Likewise I am patient on Zu but Luke may never give him the opportunity to show whether he belongs or not. A lot of bashing for 7 minutes of play so far.

I think Lance has been good, and I can see how other players in the league respect him. He seems like a very skilled street ball player who can dominate most in a one on one pickup game. I just don't know after 8 years if he can sustain this quality of play after only doing so for maybe one or two seasons in the past. My point isn't to put down Lance, but more to wonder why people believe he will maintain this efficiency when no history supports this, yet have quit on Svi after 5 shots.

I also believed in Zu as a rookie... but have become very concerned after watching the preseason and even his bad game against Aldridge.

I see that he has some moves, he has size, and he can block a little.

But what concerns me is the lack of progress. With Svi even though he's been terrible as a shooter... he hasn't ruined the team in the limited minutes he's been out on the floor... he's worked hard and made a few nice passes. Zu has been a complete liability defensively, much worse than Williams which shouldn't happen at this point.

I would continue to give Zu minutes in garbage time but I'm not optimistic unless he goes through some Rocky Balboa physical transformation.

If someone worked on his conditioning and strength... maybe he can become an NBA player... but I'm not sure why this hasn't already taken place.

He should be over KCP and Lance.

He has proven he can stay in front of his man on defense, and is a smart passer.

His shooting is only a matter of time.

Luke needs to keep having the courage to put him in, and Svi needs the courage to stop choking.

We have the solution to our 3 point woes, only the NBA doesn't know it yet.

His defense has looked solid.. But for a "shooter" he really has not shot well.. IF he wants any minutes he needs to be a deadeye shooter that we can count on to hit the open shot

He's shot 7 shots from 3.

Klay shot less than 20% on his first 36 shots over 7 games then went on to have his record setting game.

Shooters must keep shooting.

It's pointless to let someone like Lance keep shooting because he will most likely regress to his 30% mean from three.

Svi on the other hand will likely become a 40% shooter.

Luke to his credit has tried to sneak Svi in the lineup as much as possible and Svi has choked shooting wise. At least he's seemed to control his turnovers and has proven not to be a liability on defense and made some clever passes.

Luke must let Svi keep shooting. I'm hoping we get some blowout games (in our favor) so Luke can let him play.

Bench Stephenson and play Mykhailiuk. Mykhailiuk lacks experience, sure, but he’s probably already the better defender, and he is most definitely the much better shooter.

We all love Stephenson for energy and theatrics, but it’s time to be practical with these lineups. Stephenson doesn’t fit in a lineup with Rondo, Mykhailiuk does.

Trading Ingram and Ball (with Wagner) for Kemba Walker (and Jeremy Lamb) would still leave enough room to sign Durant this summer to a max.

Svi is quietly becoming one of my favorite players. Love how that while being known as a 3 point specialist he is still able to ball if his shot is not falling by putting the ball on the floor and getting into the paint for the score or smart pass. And then his defense has been underrated... does a decent job keeping players in front of him and makes the effort to contest jumpshots

Lonzo Ball Tweaks Ankle
“We felt last year when (Lonzo) got hurt, we were searching for that guy, we finally put Brandon at point guard and that kind of helped us get going again,” said Walton. “This year, we have options to go to if he is out, or if later in the season if other people get hurt, we have guys who we’re very confident can play that point guard position for us. From Brandon, to LeBron (James), to Lance (Stephenson), even Svi (Mykhailiuk), I mean Svi played point guard for his (Ukrainian) national team. We have a lot of guys we feel confident with.”
