"I get calls every day from players wanting to come out to L.A. and play. If Mitch (Kupchak) was to ask me about it, I would just tell him and let him handle it from there."

Sounds like Kobe is a little frustrated with Mitch there. I mean, LA is a nice place to play, its the media who gave the myth that players don't want to play with Kobe, but in actuallty players want to play for the Lakers.

That's a spooky quote b/c it points to a divide between management and key players that should'nt be there. If a player calls Kobe and says "I wanna join up" Mitch should know about it right away. He shouldn't have to be invited to ask. What in the world is going on inside our organization?

Ummm ... Kobe said that last part to make sure noone thinks he's the GM. Remember the media has accused Bryant of being the GM many times.

He is going out of his way to make sure he only voices opinions if ASKED and doesn't give it unless he isn't.

This dates back to the Phil thing last year.

Check the very end of the article, Kobe says Chucky, Caron, Ty Lue, Ruben Patterson and B-Diddy all called him to greet him after the 81 point game, nice to know they bothered...

Interesting speculation Wolf...
If that's the reason, it's sux that things are so sensitive around there that it would slow communication from Kobe to Mitch just to watch out for impressions... once again IF that is indeed the reason for it.

You got that exactly right. How could anyone get anything else out of that like GM's and players disagreeing is beyond me.

I wonder if there also legal aspect of this. It's one thing to talk to another player, but if player tells GM and GM takes action, wouldn't it violate league tampering rule?

I think Wolf is right, but really all we can take from this is...

1. that Kobe wants help.

2. that Kobe has tried to tell Mitch he wants help.

3. that Kobe thinks that we SHOULD GET HELP because help is out there.

What more help could Kobe possibly want?

I mean...he's got Lamar Odom.

The Lakers want the same thing:
1) They want to get some additional help
2) They know Kobe wants some help
3) There is help out there, but with the current CBA - they are not easily available and what do they give in return?
*** Kenyon Martin - hey, not even the Knicks want him
*** BDiddy - isn't G.S. underachieving and he is hoisting 3-point shots (with a low 3PG%) that would accent the Lakers' current rage of shooting 3's?
*** Francis - NO
*** There are few "available" players that can help the Lakers this season

Note to DB/Eric - wouldn't a Slava Nene trade make sense since they are both gone for this season?

Agree w/ you, even the players that you listed as undesirable (talented but with contract/health issues). I believe one of the better fits out there is Rashard, and he may be dealt with Evans & Murray or Fortson. A deal involving those players with us using expiring Ks & Mihm would be perfect.
