really playing well

his defense when he switched on curry for a play in the 1st quarter was impressive...almost Randle like

like offensive rebounds..etc

I really like this find..hes going to be quality for us

Undrafted Rookie, 23 years old, played for Gonzaga the last 4 years -- which has been a good run for program

dude averaged 13 & 8.

dude had a 39 +12 game just last Nov against Florida

people want to say that Williams is the same height as Kuz so it matters.
its not really a matter of height , or even weight, its knowing how to play the position.
Dirk is a taller than most and I probably would not trust him playing center

knowing how to set screens, pick and roll, box out etc are key

Look
Jordan Bell
Julius Randle
Kyle Kuzma
Johnathan Williams are all 6'9 and some can play center, and others can't

Strong base helps. Williams plays stronger down low than Kuz from what I've seen.

Don't care what his height is, he was the only player to give Aldrige a hard time last night. He even stuffed Derozan what? Twice?

He earned the back up C in about 10 minslol

Yeah, his defensive stance is great and he moves his feet really well. Guys like LMA, Pau and Dirk will still be able to shoot over him, but i'll take that over the uncontested rolls to the rim.

i think Williams can be more Draymond-like for us than Kuz can.

He protects the paint, hustles, is vocal on defense, provides good energy and plays solid defense.
JWill 6-9, 228lb ((7.0" Wing Span)
Dray 6-7, 230lb (7.1" Wing Span)

Kuz is so much more effective playing the 4 / 3 spot. Its night and day.

But I think we might have found out solution to the backup 5 spot in Williams cause Zubac is terrible out there.

Randle was more Dray Green for us, I think Williams is more of a hustle big and nice D guy like Haslem or Brandon Bass.

he earned it in preseason but they didnt see it or they were trying to give Zu a fair shake. but sorry Zu. it is what it is. You're now 3rd string until we play a few old fashion centers.

I would say this. I would put Zu out there earlier when we play real Centers vs nuggets, blazers, 76ers, etc. any other games its williams as the backup.

IMO, in their prime, those two were probably a little more talented but if Williams can bring some of what those guys brought he will be A-Okay for now.

I like that comparison other than Haslem and Bass being able to hit the midrange. I think Williams can develop that shot but I'm not sure how valuable that is anymore.

The shot he took in OT looked pretty good, he does seem like a guy who can develop a consistent jump shot.

I wasn't a fan and didn't know what the Lakers saw in him, but his contributions last game has instantly made me a fan. He’s a solid rim protector, can move his feet, run the floor, and good communicator on defense according to the coaching staff, which indicates good basketball IQ on that end. He should instantly be ahead of Zubac on the depth chart.

He’s an energizer bunny with quick feet. In quick bursts combined with McGee in quick bursts, they might give you 35-40 minutes a night.

You describing Williams gave me the feeling that he can play the Brandan Wright role.

He's aggressive on the boards and that's not something we have in the other guys.

Nice decision by the FO to get him in over Travis Wear

I would've preferred to keep Wear and just gotten rid of Zubac.

No offense to Williams, but this just proves any athletic big with a pulse would look decent at the 5 surrounded by our talent. Williams isn't even an NBA player.
