Sacramento native (Laguna Creek HS) & San Diego State star Malik Pope will be joining the Los Angeles Lakers for Summer League, according to sources. That means he'll be playing in his hometown during the California Classic - before heading to Vegas.

I remember there being a lot of hype around this kid before his injuries, he was supposed to be the next KD coming out of high school but the injuries derailed that.

4 Year college kid, just 21.

We shall see how this plays out

Pope and Williams are signed to push Wear for that third-string PF spot.

Wear, obviously, has the upper hand, but the competition should be good to see. I wouldn’t be surprised to see either Pope or Williams beat out Wear, although neither can shoot like Wear, so he’s got the leg up.

They were calling him KD Lite or some crap like that 4 years ago. Let's see what he can do for us in Summer League.

Yeah he looked it, before his injuries anyway. He never seemed to get all the way back after that. We'll see how he looks for us.

He can play 3/4 and if he played well enough that we had a bench squad of him and Kuzma at the 3 and the 4, I'd be fine with that. But that's only if he impresses tremendously in Summer League. He went undrafted and was a 4 year college kid.

Chad Ford had him in the lottery in 2015, but he was 19 then. He turns 22 in July. Intriguing, but long shot.

This is a good read. Shows flashes of brilliance. Seems like the inconsistency comes from changing roles in college and injury.

I'll be keeping my eye out for this guy. Really intriguing prospect.

In that highlight clip, he looks like a Randle sized guy who can shoot.

Sounds like a bargain to me.

he's a skinny 6'10, like 215lbs, almost as long as Ingram.

I guess... looked thicker than Ingram... but I already liked that he could shoot from deep and could execute those Worthy like one handed dunks... In the second video on YouTube he looked more skinny. Wonder why he dropped so much out of favor.

That was a really, really great read. I was following Pope a couple of years ago. I had forgotten all about him. That article crystallized some things for me from back then, and right now.

Possibly a nice and cheap addition to the team.

I thought he would be a good gamble in 2nd round. Problem is if he shows well in SL any team can sign him...

I found this in my son's SAT book this morning... "Hightower is to McGrady as Pope is to Durant."

He is another of those players who might blossom in a different system.
