With the second Unit as a back up he will just be used on defense and rebounding. Wont need him to be fast at all |

Lopez is allergic to rebounding (although I like him). |

Lopez is playing worse then last year unless I’m just looking at stats, I don’t think fans should be upset that we let him walk in FA. |

If JaVale keeps this kind of play up, he's a realistic candidate for Most Improved Player tbh.
last season 4.8/2.6 with 0.9 BLKS
to this season 15.5 PPG 7.5 REB and 3.3 BLKS also 63% from the field. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

Leads the league in blocks too!
Where does JaVale rank in the West for centers?
If they were still voting for centers in the All-star game, he could maybe have a shot after Jokic? At least better than DeAndre Jordan _________________ Tacos |

He has to be in the conversation for DPOY, stats probably show we are elite defensively when he’s in the starting line up. |

I am old enough to remember his mother as a basketball player at USC.
Along with her sister and Cheryl Miller, they were super tight.
Love what JaVale is bringing to the team, in my opinion he is exceeding expectations and doing a great job. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

If you compare lineups that he is in vs lineups that our nonexistent backup C is in, then yeah our defensive stats will probably look alot better. That doesn't make him a DPOY candidate. That just says that our backup C sucks and our D sucks. |

Outplaying DJ was Impressive and it isn’t just about individual defense when the poster posted a quote talking about how good our D looks when LeBron and McGee are both in the same starting line up. |

The Lakers have allowed only 98 points per 100 possessions with LeBron and McGee on the floor, a mark that would rank second in the league, per NBA.com. |

Impressive. If we had a decent backup C, we would probably be top 15 overall |

McGee is a top 10 center in the league. Where did this play come from? I did not expect anything close to what he is doing as he came from nowhere. When we get our max guy (or close) and backup center next season, we will be hoisting up another banner. |

He got himself in the best shape of his life and that obviously helps his stamina and his breathing. And he's in the perfect position and role he should have always had in the league. Essentially a Deandre Jordan, Gobert role. it suits him. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

LakerLanny, I'm also old enough to remember them as well. Do you remember the name Anita Ortega from back in the day? She played for UCLA around that time. We went to high school together. She went on to become a captain w/LAPD.
Also, I have to mildly disagree with those who think McGee has a chance to win the Most Improved Player award. I've always liked him. I think he played this well last year. He's not exceeding my expectations at all.
The difference is the Lakers need him to perform as he has, whereas GS has the firepower of a small army. |

Love what he is adding to the team this year. Far exceeding my expectations on how critical a player he has become. His increase in mpg are the most surprising IMO. Never expected him to be over 30 mpg on a regular basis.
But they have to find a suitable answer for his backup though. When he leaves the floor the entire game changes for the worse. And not to be a Chicken Little but I have concerns on his ability to continue at this pace all season long. There are already stretches where he looks gassed because of his activity level.
FO needs to fix this issue before it becomes a problem. |

Someone created an entire post asking "what do you think of the center position?". I, as well as so many others, see the 5 as very, very thin. Are we the only ones who've notice this?, or is the FO counting on Wagner, and a host of others behind McGee to be sufficient?
It has been so very apparent from the beginning. I can honestly say that I expected this from him, BUT I would absolutely not expect, nor count on, McGee to continue this level of play for the entire season. I'm sure they're many who agree. |

You must have a crystal ball expecting this kind of play from McGee. In his 13th year and having career highs in points, blocks, steals, assists, and almost his best year in FG%. |

I originally thought he made a mistake leaving the Warriors to join us, but well it has been a blessing considering his play so far.
I like that he's active, he gets into position and the players reward him.
He's playing way above his current contract, a bargain at that price. |

LeBron James threw JaVale McGee's name out there as a potential Defensive Player of the Year candidate at shootaround today. And there's actually a case to be made. McGee might be the best bargain in the league making the vet's minimum of $2.4 million.
