Whyyyyyyyyy would they put that black side strip on the purple jersey?

Just so unnecessary. Sickened by that. The purple jersey would have been the best one had it not been for the black.

In love with the other 2 and will be picking up asap!

If the purple jerseys have that weird black side stripe, then why don't the gold and white ones have it?

I've looked at the picture at least 20+ times just now and no matter what, I can't get with the black strip.

Trying to talk to myself into it like maybe it's the 'new wave' but I just can't do it. Disgusting.

I am not a big fan of the jerseys. I am not a fan of Nike's involvement with the NBA in general . I will just have to get use to it I suppose.

It's absolutely terrible...serves no purpose whatsoever except making the jersey look worse.

The purple jerseys are most definitely awkward as all hell, but, in all fairness, they will look quite good if the Lakers rock all black shoes and socks with them.

I would have never signed off on them, but they are salvageable if the team rocks them the right way.

But the lakers colors are purple and gold not purple and black. We are not the Sacramento Kings

Signifies the start of a new era. For those of us who went through the entire Shaq Kobe era this is like your life flashing before your eyes.

I love the golds and whites, I still think the showtime golds beat these but you can't go wrong with a classic.

The purples get a WTF reaction from me due to the stripe, but I'll wait to see them in action before passing judgement.

I mean they are the statement jerseys

Pleeeeeease keep the mamba black Nike

"Statement" jerseys is something Nike came up with on its own to sell more merch, it isn't a real thing that should actually affect a uniform's design.

Feels like the Lakers got duped.

They meant well but Nike was able to sprinkle some of that corporate fairy dust on 'em (the industrial grade stuff they've been using on college football teams for a decade now) and temporarily stun them long enough to approve that hodgepodge third-rate Chinese knockoff we now call our road jersey.

Since Nike took over RIP to our road jersey, how many times did we actually wear them last year.

The got the gold right...

The white looks 🔥

All they had to do was make the black stripe gold...like giving a killer speech and then farting out loud before the applause can begin.

I coulda rolled with that. Would've been a nod to the Shaq/Kobe Staples Center era instead of a nod to absolutely nothing.

i have a theory in the black stripes.

(a Rob Pelinka type narrative)

Back in the 80's when I was in my teens and color television was brought to my home, I always question my brother(who also is a Laker fan) why if our colors were Purple and Gold, The jerseys looked blue. That trend continue, then I read the forum blue history. Now, last year, the 5 or 6 times we used the Purple, I was mad, because in my LED tv, I still continue to see a shade of blue.

I think the black stripes were added to enlighten and define the purple, Just saying...

I feel like I've read this post before. Do you do this Pelinka bit often?

(Not complaining, mind you.)

But don't teams have the freedom to decide which jersey to wear game by game?

Pretty sure Nike schedules it all in ahead of time.

Purple was designated as the "statement" jersey which means it is the alternate jersey, rather than the away one.

I posted it elsewhere but I think home team gets to select jersey game to game and away team has to select contrasting color. Considering a lot of teams like to put out their alternate jerseys at home when playing the Lakers (assuming it ties to them trying to sell some of their jerseys knowing we're always a big draw), Lakers have to wear contrast color which tends to be our golds or whites. That's my theory for the missing purple jersey anyway.

The Purple one is my favorite, white is great too. The black stripe is really tough. Reminds me of the 90s Knicks jerseys. Why not do something different

Classic round collar- check
Drop shadow numbers- check
Black Uni’s gone- check
Hideous powder blue gone- check

Oh wait, but a black stripe in the purple jersey....yup, ruined everything for me. Total fail. (Sarcasm)

New Uni’s are 80% of everything I wanted. I’m not gonna throw shade on a minor detail that will probably be fixed by next year anyway. (Kinda like Lance Stephenson )
