Pistons had a post presence in Ben Wallace and Chauncey was Mr. Clutch in the 4th. As good as Lebron is, I don't think of him as clutch except when he plays the Raptors.
I think that 2004 Pistons team could challenge the Warriors.
Warriors offense is too much for the 2004 pistons who wouldn’t be able to keep up with the onslaught of attacks. Warriors are much faster and able to kill you in a multitude of ways that negate Rasheed and Tayshaun and Ben Wallace, not to mention Draymond would kick or grab or punch each of them in the balls at some point in the series and then yell at the ceiling for no reason.
Really we need Kawhi, a solid inside presence, and some elite knock down shooters to even talk about competing with GS. We can play the greatest defense ever but it wouldn’t matter because they have 3 guys who can score at will from anywhere(KD, Steph, Klay)
Two teams I would like to see go up against them are 96 Bulls and 2001 Lakers.
2001 Lakers would eviscerate the Dubs. Shaq would be unstoppable, and no hand check rules for 2001 Kobe would be unguardable. They might both average more than 40 each per game.
Not very many similarities other than our hopes that this squad will do what Detroit did and beat the team with the four all-stars come playoff time.
People are also forgetting some key circumstances that played into why the Lakers lost. Malone injured, Shaq and Kobe at the peak of dysfunction and turmoil, and Payton not being able to ever fit into Phil’s system. These are the reasons the Lakers lost, and lost badly.
Malone being injured was the biggest gap for me. Healthy Malone and we win that series.
I don’t believe that having multiple stars is the only way to a ring, it’s just the easiest way. We matchup very well with the warriors.
I also believe that our core is a lot better than the national media make us out to be. Ingram and Kuzma already scored 16 ppg without lebron, why is it such a reach to believe that they take another step forward next season? Kuzma is going to thrive playing next to lebron and imo Ingram is destined for a breakout season. Especially playIng with playmakers like rondo, Lonzo and lebron

Agreed. Detroit was good, but they were also really lucky with the timing of all those problems we had that year. _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."

Not to mention those pistons had the luxury of getting an all star mid season trade. For those of you who don’t remember it was Rasheed Wallace. Portland was so fed up with Sheed they traded him to Atlanta. He played one game for them and atl said (bleep) this guy we can’t handle him and they traded him to Detroit for absolutely nothing

Why do people always act like the 2004 Pistons were some collection of scrubs who pulled off some unthinkable upset? They had two Hall of Famers in Billups and Ben Wallace, two additional all-stars in RIP Hamilton and Rasheed Wallace, and the best wing defender in the game in Tayshaun Prince. It was statistically the greatest defense of all time. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
My friends and I would play NBA2K4 during halftime as Lakers and couldn’t believe we kept losing to the Pistons in the real.
Truth be told if Magic hadn’t had his injury in 1989 we would have had anther ring (12-0 before the Finals) and Malone’s injury in 2004. We should have 18 chips to Boston’s 17. Damn you Detroit!!!!

Sure, minus the defensive star in Ben Wallace. And minus the defense of Sheed, Prince and Billups. So nothing like that Pistons team. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

Agreed. Showtime Lakers and Bird's Celtics would also beat the Warriors.
