was it top loading....I recall the first one I ever saw in the early 80's was top loading...my grandmother had it.....it set on top of the giant 25" "floor model" television right beside the little black "home box office" box!
anyone else recall the little box that tv providers gave you for HBO service....it just had 1 single switch on it.....either TV or HBO......or the floor model tv encased wood to look like a piece of furniture. |
oh yeah...top loader with the long pause/play cord
Zenith VCT400...weighs about 15 lbs

Is this where "it's not TV, it's HBO" came from? Also now wondering if Digiornio ripped this off. |

while I was looking for those images....came across another classic in late 80's/early 90's...the VCR Plus! Allowed you to easily program your VCR!

never could figure out if the name was VCR Plus or VCR Plus Plus... |

Had the same VCR....that thing weighed a ton. The remote was pointless since you had to sit close to the VCR so you might as well leave the remote detached.
Also we had a TV where you had to get up to physically change the channels. |
that is why as kids we use to set in the floor right in front of the television...we were our parents human remote control. |

title of movie? |
It was “Honey Bunch” or something like that. Every so often when we were out and saw an awkward moment she’d just look at me and say “Honey Bunch” with a nod and a wink. |
This was back in the Hairy Era. |
cut the search in half...was Ron Jeremy in it? |
No, I do recall that Raquel Darrian was though. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

fwiw the first time I saw a naked woman was when I walked into the "ADULTS ONLY" section at the Wherehouse as a 6-year-old. They had the original VHS jackets on display...the ones with muffrage and strudel on the front. _________________ "All wars are civil wars, because all men are brothers."

If DVDs hadn’t come along, they might have. They were marketed to upscale consumers (i.e., people like me who were willing to pay more). You couldn’t record something on a blank laserdisc like you could with VHS, and that was a big deal back in the day. As it played out, laserdisc users like me basically funded digital conversion of movies and introduced people to letterbox format (which was the biggest attraction to me). Then digital letterbox versions got marketed to the masses through DVDs. Before that, I used to amaze people by running something like the original Star Wars or 2001 on laserdisc, with wide screen format and digital sound. As a movie industry guy, I’m sure you appreciate this. I got to fully enjoy the fruits of your hard work. |

They were the same size as vinyl LPs. Some Blockbusters had racks just like what you would have found in a record shop back in the day. The selection was typically limited, though. Most of us bought our laserdiscs, which is why it was so much more expensive. At the time, I considered it to be worth the money. Now I have about 100 laserdiscs joining my vinyl LPs as dust collectors. |

I was in Japan in the eighties and had an early laser disc player (paid a bloody fortune, but I had about eight grand in audio video gear), but the dvd quickly killed it. _________________ “We must always take sides. I used Laserdiscs mostly for concert films like Clapton 24 Nights/Unplugged, CSN, Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin ...things I watched over and over
Still have them up in the closet...my oldest son hasn't gotten to that format yet. He has my amp, receiver and turntable and most my vinyl already |

There had better be an adult section if there is only one left in the USA.
As someone who actually rented (ahem) an adult video there back in the day, that was awkward as hell. You were trying to mix that one in with Top Gun and Breakfast Club and (bleep). _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

I remember back in the day when my dad, who was a huge audiophile, upgraded his equipment from top to bottom and gave me his old setup as my first. I was the only one of my friends with a full high end system. Needless to say my buddies and I spent a lot of time "chilling" and cranking our favorite albums.
Still have my old vinyl, but haven't made the leap back yet. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

I don't think vinyl will ever go away. It's still the richest/fullest sounding medium, be it physical or digital, by far. Also the nostalgia/collectible element is very strong. |
