That was the dunk contest voting equivilent of the Ohio and Florida vote counts in the 2004 elections...
That said, he deserved it to win it with the Spud Dunk; it was the most memorable dunk of the night, so it's all good in the end. |

The Ohio/Florida is reference to the screwy voting discrepancies in those states that were never fully investigated;
To clarify also, Andre's was the best dunk, but Nate's will be replayed for years, and at 5-9 (being generous) sends a great message that you don't have to be a tall guy to be something in the sport. |

The best part was the boos by the fans. The result was so fixed where one of the judges pull back his score and give out a lower one so Nate can win, freaking live on televison too! Kind of makes you wonder about those calls Detroit was getting in that final against the Lakers ha. Like Nate, Detroit was the little guy, the underdog, David Stern loves a good story line. _________________ Ringo "You retired too?"

Maybe the judge did it so they wouldn't have to sit through Nate lobbing it to himself 50 more times. I rooted for the guy last night too, but it was annoying. The saving grace was that at least these guys tried some quality dunks, even though it was hard watching the re-do(sssssssssssss).
This is the first time I've posted about the dunk contest, so you guys may have been over the Josh Smith dunk. I honestly thought he was on drugs when he put the tape down, and was puzzled like most when he "only" jumped from the free throw line. Thing is though, I was on Atlanta's ESPN board. There was a guy that posted that Josh put the tape down to mark where his steps would be. That sounds tough to do, and taking off from that far away you'd think it would be hard to line your steps up right, but then again these guys are pros. That makes sense if that is the case, and I haven't heard a comment out of Smith, but maybe he said something. He had likely done this many times in practice, and didn't understand that the fans thought he meant he was jumping from just inside the 3-point line. Maybe he should have put the tape down, then pointed at the foul line. Anyway, though we're all talking about Iggy getting robbed, how about the 41 for a NEVER BEFORE LANDED 2 hand foul line dunk. I'm almost sure Vince landed one inside the line, but I may be wrong. Anyway, either way you look at it, the dunk contest was exciting, and at least America now knows the Knicks still play basketball. |

I think Kenny Smith said it best when he called it "discrimination against taller dunkers". Having said that, whoever imagined a 5'6-7" guy could put the ball through his legs and dunk it or jump over someone and dunk it?
Regardless of who won, it was very enjoyable to watch. |

I gotta give it up, for the small guys... I was saying to myself "This is embarrassing, give it up Nate, don't embarrass yourself anymore..." Nate kept on trying...[how many tries do you get?].
Good to see good 'ole Spud again... He's getting kind of chubby, and grey...
Spud is still one of my choices, as the best dunker, in the contest... _________________ "Teamwork is a nebulous thing. It is as ephemeral as love, disappearing at the latest insult.".... Phil Jackson |

Andre Igoudala deserved to win I thought. He got hosed. He was doing some crazy stuff. Nate won b/c "nobody roots for Goliath." |

My sentiments exactly... That one from behind the backboard was absolutely vicious....
But If Nate Rob got that off the backboard 'tween the leggers, it would have been the best contest dunk. Period. But close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Iggy should have one. _________________ bonerkillcollective.tumblr.com - peep our art. |

My story - AI II should have won hands done.
Props to Nate, who is a nice young man and a great athlete, but this had a bad odor with judges looking at each other to decide what scores to post. |

The outcome was contrived. The league is in desperate need of a "feel good" story, so it remanufactured Spud Webb. |

Yup. I was not impressed with Iggy's last 3 dunks. Too similar in my opinion.
The behind the backboard dunk was sick though. _________________ Chris Mihm - "...the reason he's been forced to take as many shots as he has is because our offense tends to stagnate and then we just have a tendency to throw him the ball. Can we get him (AI II)?
I remember Kobe practiced with him during his rookie off-season. So I guess Kobe has a special impression about this guy.
He has a great personality and definitely great talent ... |
