Here's a pretty even handed article on msnbc.com (not by Ventre, of course), that sums up Kobe's image rehab pretty well (the sub-headline is "There's perhaps never been a rehabilitation of an image like this in sports."

We knew he had it in him. Let the haters hate; I have been saying since Colorado that American's love to see celebrities fall, but once they do, they also love the rise from the ashes, and that Kobe would be no different. 81 just accelerated the process...

Best part of the article.

Quote:
O'Neal is now a declining figure with the Miami Heat. Kevin Garnett's Minnesota Timberwolves again don't look like a playoff team. Allen Iverson struggles with an inconsistent 76ers' team with far more talent than Bryant's Lakers. Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming don't look like playoff participants with the Houston Rockets. Neither does Ray Allen in Seattle or Paul Pierce in Boston. Vince Carter has settled quietly in behind more raucous teammates and what has Tim Duncan ever done or said other than win? There are a bunch of Detroit Pistons here, but hardly anyone talks to them.
