Well, if Phoenix wanted 1 of the core for Trevor Ariza,

Then doesn't NO will want all of the 4 of the core and then some??

The Lakers will have cap space after the season, it would be a chance for NO to cut salaries.

What salary dumps did pacers and Spurs did when they were traded?

Great problems to have. LBJ/AD/KD or LBJ/KD/young core.

Do you really think that OKC and Toronto has cap space?

BIG IF...

If the Lakers stay on like 3-4th seed trajectory for the year, no less and they’re really clicking, by the deadline should they just seriously go for it and make a trade for a player to make a run THIS year? Seriously.

Seriously!

Not sure who that player would be, but I think about it.

Is this really a wait it out and see what we have year? LeBron is SO good

If you're 3rd/4th in the West near the deadline that's likely because most of the young guys are playing well and the team has good chemistry. If you make a trade for a superstar like AD by giving up multiple players, you might increase your overall talent level but you're likely creating holes at certain spots plus changing the chemistry of your team. That chemistry change isn't necessarily going to be beneficial. I wouldn't make a mega-move like that at the deadline, not unless it was the equivalent to the Pau Gasol deal where you're not really giving up much. I'd wait until the offseason to make a major move like that.

Fine by me. AD is not worth 4 cost controlled assets. Specially when we have LeBron and a max slot open

It was reverse. OKC dumped 84million of a disappointing bench player. Pacers nor OKC had the idea of dipo blowing up.

Spurs took 3 years of DeMar's contract

I completely understand this argument. I just fear LeDecline a bit, he’s older and it just takes one weird fall...

Maybe we don’t have to trade for a Mega Star. I heard talk a while back about trading for Beal, and then flipping Beal plus whatever for AD if it’s still not enough to win.

If LA is playing really well by the deadline, and then becomes LeBron/Beal/most of the core still on the team, how far does that team go?

I agree. Personally I think we already have the core and just need one more really big piece to be a surefire contender.

With a bit larger of a sample size, say through the rest of December or early Jan.

Would have to keep one of Ingram or Lonzo in AD trade.
Keep Hart and Kuzma.
So at most:
(Ingram or Lonzo)+Wagner+Bonga+SVI + two first rounders

If you have no other players to play with the superstars you are dead in the water.

If we knew that Lebron was coming then we should have.

That trade’s not gonna cut it. Say bye to Hart and/or Kuzma.

Kuzma has finally showed flashes of last year's form

Lonzo finally looked like Lonzo of his early rookie season before he started having his mental issues.

Svi finally started to shoot like we knew he could

And we don't have BI and Rondo back!

Would have been nice to get Ariza for KCP but the front office made the right call in not wasting a draft pick or core piece to get him.

If you take away the 2 and 5 start... we are right there at Toronto's pace.

If Boogie gets healthy... then it's almost impossible to beat the Warriors... I think we'd have a hard time getting past Toronto.

But against everyone else I think we have as good a chance as any, even without another trade.

What's encouraging is that we've been playing a 70% winning percentage playing pretty badly except for the last game.

The last game is how we are capable of playing and we didn't even have BI and Rondo.

I think we already are a contender which is why I don't want to trade the core.

Sure, if you’re counting on injuries to players on other teams. I wouldn’t do that.

We have our own injuries and have a 16-6 record after the 2 and 5 start.

And that's while having a lot of bad games and losing to some bad teams.

Only Toronto made me feel like we were inferior... every other team I felt we could have beaten if we made less dumb mistakes.
