Won't he be a trade chip for us as more salary in a sign and trade as a restricted free agent, or we match or keep him if he improves. His salary doesn't move the needle this season to trade him unless he was going to be packaged, but that ship sailed

I think there is still a chance Kuz starts. IIRC, Pelinka made those comments about Kuz stepping into Green's role when rumor was we had already bagged Matthews. At the same time, its been reported that Matthews agreed to come to LA based on being promised a starting role, so not sure.

I think Kuz gets 25-30 minutes a game this season. He's going to play 2 guard and wing. If you assume that Trez takes Dwight's minutes plus some minutes from LBJ/AD (so we don't rely on them as heavily), Matthews takes Green's minutes and Shroder takes AB/Rondo's minutes (maybe a few here/there from KCP/Caruso), no reason Kuzma can't get the same minutes he had last year. Nothing we have done takes away from Kuz. If anything, all we've done is replace players we lost with better players - the player's we've acquired can slip right into the same rotation we had last year.

Finally, I think for the first month or two, Lakers are going to rely on Kuzma a lot more where AD/LBH play limited minutes and/or miss games altogether.

I think that was Rob being diplomatic when asked about Kuz and an extension.

We will likely start one of the following at guard:

Dennis/KCP

KCP/Wes

I don't see Kuz supplanting either Dennis or Wes.

So that means his primary bench minutes are not at PF (Trez) or SG (Caruso/THT).

I think he may see a rise in early minutes, but come playoff time, he may be a 14-16mpg role player. That's why I could see him being frustrated and seeking a place to showcase more before hitting RFA.

Considering this is Kuz’s contract year, he will want to show out and play his best ball regardless of the minutes he is given.

Which is a very good problem to have. Even if his motivation is purely financial and ego reasons, it helps this team win games.

Our guard rotation is pretty set.

Bubble team concept:

PG (at least defending them): KCP/Dennis
SG: Wes/AC/THT

Traditional "PG" concept:

PG: Dennis/AC
SG: KCP/Wes/THT

Really hard to see Kuz stealing minutes there.

So we go to forwards:

SF: LBJ/Kuz/McKinnie
PF: AD/Trez

So it really depends on whether we run Trez as a "center" (I wouldn't). And we have Kieff too, so that's going to hamper a lot of the PF minutes for Kuz.

I'm telling you, long-term, Kuz's minutes are going to possibly be at issue barring an injury to these players.

That bench is going to light up other bench units and some starting units.

The crazier part is you have to also add in Bron or AD because one of them is usually always on the floor. That unit is a borderline playoff team itself lmaoooo what an offseason

I would only sign one more player. Leave one spot open to bring in someone that shines during camp. Then leave another roster spot to bring in a need during the year.

In terms of who that one more person should be: either a playmaker (point guard) or a big.

Kuz will supplant Wes the same way he did Green last year. I think Kuz will have the exact same role he had last year. The roles haven't changed.

Shroder = Rondo _+ some Bradley minutes
Caruso = Caruso + some Bradley minutes
KCP = KCP + some Bradley minutes
Mathews = Green
Gasol = McGee
Trez = Howard + some AD & LBJ minutes
Kieff = Keiff
Kuz = Kuz

Again, that's the beauty of this team. We basically swapped out players last year for the upgrades in the same exact roles. The only real differences are Gasol and Trez who will play more/less than McGee/Howard respectively depending on the matchup.

Seems we disagree on how Trez is going to be used. I think he plays at "C" next year in the Howard role.

Gonna be on Vogel to figure this out but there's definite;y a world Kuz can still get big mins and a world where's hovering under 18. THT, Kuzma, and Kief are all essentially fighting for the same mins.

If THT is impressive and you need to find him mins then start KCP at SG, Talen get's buck up mins there, then you slide Matthews to backup 3 which pushes Kuzma back up to the back up 4 where he will compete with Kief for mins. I think that's the most likely scenario.

If THT is not ready yet, then you probably see Kief as the primary back up 4 (Kuz gets a few mins a game there) and then Kuz get all the back up 3 mins while Matthews slides back down to the 2 (either as a starter or a backup)

Either way, it point to our extremely versatility.

If you think about it, they have joint bank accounts. Thanks for paying Markief, Clippers Nation.

Last year's stats:

Dennis: 31mpg
Wes: 24mpg
KCP: 25mpg
Caruso: 18mpg
THT: 5mpg (limited sample size).

For the two guard positions, we have 96 minutes. Just based on minutes from last year (and I think Caruso will play more), we are already at 98mpg.

I do think LBJ will reduce his minutes, but it'll be more along the lines of going from 35mpg to 32mpg. Something nominal, though he may sit out some back to backs, etc.

Kuz's minutes won't come from the guard spots, as I've read that the Lakers want to get THT more minutes too.

So you have 16mpg from the SF spot (most likely) if LBJ goes down to 32mpg.

At the PF spot, AD will still play the lion's share of minutes. Then you have Trez/Kieff who may steal some minutes too. Maybe, Kuz gets a few minutes there.

Wow, Morris didn't even get the 20% bump.
I wonder if we told him we'd get him back next year with the bird rights.

Anyway.. things are looking good.
I think one more wing + dudley and we're set.
I actually want another wise vet to help ease the tention during a long season.
I wonder if Batum is that.

All I ask is we match up with both the Clippers and Nets in the postseason. I want to beat the Clippers in the playoffs so Balmer can declare losses on all those billboards.

Wouldn’t it just be a feel good story to give Pau a farewell tour and maybe 2-3 minutes in blowouts?

Not sure if that’s what he wants, but I think it’d be awesome!
