Booby Marks (ESPN) on the radio just again discussed that he's hearing the deal goes down on July 6 and that the timing wasn't negotiated as part of the deal. He then said, we will see if its delayed or not. This is going to drive me nuts for the next three weeks.
If Pelinka had gotten a discount on the trade, then I could understand not leaning on New Orleans to put the trade on hold while he conducts other business such as a 30% max FA.
Since Pelinka appears to have paid full price (perhaps a bit more than full price), he should have leaned on Griffin to help him out on the timing issue.
I am seeing that AD's trade kicker would be $4-5 million which NOP would be on the hook for. AD needs to leverage NOP to delay the trade til July 30th to waive that bonus. Also, Rob should just sign the 4th pick anyway delaying the trade.
New Orleans would have to pay Davis the trade kicker, but the hit/charge would be on the LA team salary. A somewhat sloppy way of conducting business.
Wonder if AD could be persuaded to waive the kicker if NO would be willing to wait until July 30th.
And why does NO want to trade the pick so bad? They'd rather have a veteran who won't be around in a few years than potentially get another all-star in a draft that's suddenly 4-deep?
It would be a continuation of what they did after drafting Davis. Try to win ASAP instead of having a few bad seasons to get some more high draft picks that would have been roughly the same age as Davis.
Cleveland did much the same when they drafted LeBron. Rush, rush, rush instead of having patience. Win ASAP versus have patience is probably a decision made at the ownership level rather than at the POBO - GM level.
Happy Father's day. Anthony Davis! In 2.5 years we turned Mozgov and Deng into Lebron and AD! We now have between $23M and $33M in capspace plus $6M room exception. Very excited for this free agency.

I think it took a bit more than Moz and Deng to make Lebron and AD.
It's kinda crazy to look at how the Lakers roster has been completely overhauled (ordered by minutes played in season):

A key difference would be the level of young talent they have.

Man, call me crazy but i just dont believe that. I guess time will tell but geez, I just wont believe it until i see it.
I don't either. The Palinka hire was criticized for dozens or reasons but the one constant was that he knew what he was doing with the cap and would be able to deal accordingly.
If he did screw this up however than I don't know what to say. Line up the GM candidates for interviews asap.
He proved last off-season he didn’t know how to handle the cap.
How?
Letting Randle walk. Waiving Deng when he did. Not signing anyone to non-guaranteed contracts, turning them into trade assets.
Another blunder is we didn’t even use all our cap room last year because we were planning Stephenson to the room, then just signed him anyway using cap-room.
Barring injury to Lonzo/BI, it would be almost impossible for NOP to back out of this deal. Worse, with AD all but being a Laker for the next couple of weeks, the chances of any other team jumping back in the mix are minimal.
The Pelicans can’t back out of the deal.
Of course they can. It would be a bad look and maybe teams would be weary of dealing with them in the future but they can back out until the paperwork is filed and physicals are passed.

Didn’t someone mention on LG that teams who back out of deals face consequences?

Let’s all blame magic though.
1 - Randle asked out and had no role on the team had he stayed. They liked Kuzma better.
2 - Waiving Deng at that point was mostly likely a budget move by Tim Harris, not a basketball move. The team likes to make money.
3 - the rest are inconsequential ravings by you. _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns".

If we can’t get A max player I would like something like this. Kuzma off the bench of course.
Maybe
Rose for the room Rondo Min
Bogdanovic 12 mill Bullock Min KCP Min
Lebron Ariza Min
AD Kuzma Wagner
Lopez for 11mill McGee Min _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins
Max slot : Kawhi
The only way I can see this trade being completed on July 6 is if the third max is being acquired via another trade after opting in to their last year and getting assurances from the Lakers of a max extension no matter what happens this season.
I was thinking with Kawhi, Lebron, Kuz, Davis they might need speed at point guard. I did a search on nba.com/stats and one name near the top of that list they might be able to sign at the minimum is Ish Smith, who is 31 years old, and coming off an $18 million deal with Detroit.
