I’m surprised no one has signed Aron Baynes yet... he’s a quality big who plays tough D and can shoot the 3 if we weren’t loaded with bigs I would have been excited if we signed him.

This isn’t close to being “typical.”
The smartest thing for the Lakers is to keep the roster spot open, Iggy or no Iggy. There is zero reason to sign Korver, JR Smith, Melo or anyone else currently available.
If it was any other team, you would be praising them for the flexibility of an open roster spot, but since it’s the Lakers.... |

Good point. There may be a buy-out at some point in the future that may interest the Lakers and it would be smart to keep a roster spot open. The risk reward is worth keeping the flexibility while we let the team chemistry play out and see where we can get the most bang for our buck. |

No disrespect Jim, but I actually think he has a point on this.
Korver was obtainable, and we really need a back up SF/wing shooter.
While I would of course rather have Iggy, he is beyond our control at this point, and may very well remain so.
And if Iggy does become available, we can always release a player to make the room.
I'd prefer someone who can defend better than Korver, but dude is a 40%+ career 3 pt shooter, and by all accounts a great teammate.
He would have been a great pick up, especially at a vet min.
A bit reminiscent of the "Kawhi or bust" attitude, that kept us from building the best possible team. While I do think we recovered well from the Kawhi fiasco, it was still a bit of a fiasco, in that it kept us from building the best possible team we could have. Also, signing players like Dudley, and the Cook/Daniels issue, made roster space tighter than it needed to be.
I would have signed Korver, and if Iggy became available, figured it out.
Now he is an asset on another title contender. _________________ "Rangers lead the way!"

Yeah. Ainge traded him to one of the worst team in the NBA a week after he opted in on the final year of his deal. With all the money that was flying around this summer I'm pretty sure he could have got more than the $5.4 million on his player option.

There doesn't seem to be any defensive SFs left worth signing.
Is Luc healthy? If he is it may be worth a gamble.
Otherwise, would just wait until training camp to see what the needs are.
Leave that spot to fill the need. |

I have to agree. Korver is pretty old and Iggy is a better option on defense. We have some shooters now so a guy like Korver is not a must have. Iggy, on the other hand, if he can be had, is the icing on the cake for this off season.
Still, as I stated previously, the Lakers roster Plan B looks to be more solid than Plan A with throwing all the money at one player with hopes of guys just taking the vet min. I know some folks here even argue that most of these guys that we got could have come for cheaper, but that's just making up crap. You don't know that, you are just assuming. Lakers have done a great offseason. Bravo!! |

SBNation is reporting it's a training camp deal so it looks like we still have our final regular season roster spot and one two-way contract available. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

I prefer to go into training camp with an open roster spot....gives guys like this something to play for....even if the odds are low, it is possible. |

The only way Kawhi opts out is if things go horribly wrong with the Clippers, he would be giving up Bird Rights. |
Early Bird rights. If the cap goes up a decent amount, that's not a path to greatest earnings. A cap team (which could include the Lakers) would be. |
No, he would have Early Bird Rights after 2 seasons, leaving then would cost his full Bird Rights after his third season. Lakers will be a cap team? |
He is opting out after 2 years so there is no full Bird Rights. |
He is? Doubtful. |
Of course he’s opting out. He wants the ten year max money. That’s obvious. |

I just read the Raptors gave Devin Robinson a 1 year non-guaranteed deal....that is the type of deal I wanted to Lakers to offer him and PJ Dozier! Swing and take a low risk chance on young talent.... |

Good call.
Thabo can play D and shoot the 3.
I wonder if we could bring him in on a 2 way?
Or sign to vet min and release someone if Iggy becomes available? _________________ "Rangers lead the way!"
