I doubt he gets a statue in lala land. IMO that should be in his home, Cleveland but Miami may be the right place for it. We'll see. _________________ Lakers need to build a freaking team !

he is getting one in Cleveland....they may even do a Lincoln Memorial size one there with him on his throne. If Miami began to do statues.....DWade goes up first....but I could see them doing a Lebron next to keep DWade company....I mean this is the same team that retired Jordan's jersey, and he never played there.
He wins 1, jersey goes up in the rafters. We pass Boston while he's here, he gets a statue.
You really think he has to win a title to get his jersey in the rafters? I think he could get hurt his first game and have to retire and they'd still put his jersey up.
That would be incredibly disrespectful to all the greats that have played for us.
Heck, not only our greats but even guys that actually contributed to titles and are not up there. Cooper, Horry, Fisher, Odom, etc.
Jeanie Buss would do it. She's very emphatic about spoiling Lakers stars.
He'd have to if he was playing at an MVP level and got a ring. He's an all-time great player, having that statue would benefit both him, and the Lakers lore. It would also serve as a recruitment incentive for future stars.

Yeah, might as well do what Miami did and retire Michael Jordan's number too
On the jersey retirement sub-topic: Elgin Baylor won 0 titles. Jerry West won 1. Wilt Chamberlain won 1 with the Lakers. Gail Goodrich won 1. Those guys all have their jerseys retired. If Lebron plays at a superstar level and retires a Laker it won't matter if he wins a title or not. They'll retire his jersey.
If he wins a title he'll get a statue at some point. Elgin is and he had no titles (but spent his career in L.A.). The statues are as much a promotional tool as they are anything else. Lebron has been the best player in the league for a long time. He would represent Lakers greatness, if he gets a title, keeps the Lakers as contenders while playing at a high level, I think that's a no brainer.
No. Statues are for those who won three or more titles.
Jerry West = 1 ring
Elgin Baylor = 0 rings
Time to demolish their statues?
This isn't a black or white question. Baylor and West contributed a lot to the lakers in their careers and definitely earned their statues for that. Lebron will not be here his entire career. So in order to earn a statue he has different expectations to meet. _________________ Kobe

Which is why I gave the West and Baylor example to counter the black & white statement of 3 or more rings from the quote. _________________ Tacos
Not sure I agree with this train of thought he's getting a jersey retired no matter what he does. We don't do that. I think if he wins a title he gets a jersey. More than one title he'll get a statue both for the fact he's WAY up in the GOAT conversation if he's got 5 rings. Scoring record is legitimately in play as well. Factor that in and he'll definitely be in bronze outside Staples.
If he just turns up and we go the playoffs and out for 4 years I'm not sure he gets a jersey retired. They take that stuff really seriously here.

So you play here 4 (maybe less) years at the end of your career and you get a statue...possibly a retired jersey? If that's true then that stuff means way less than I thought it did.

I think it's a very valuable recruitment tool down the line, if he earns it.
1 ring: jersey
5+ years, 2 rings: maybe statue (depending on years / number of all-star appearances)
3 finals, 2 rings: probably statue
3 rings: statue
Seems like we are getting ahead of ourselves. Man has to earn a retired jersey and a statue.
Neither should be given easily or as a “signing bonus”.
I agree that James has a bit of a head start on a retired jersey because he is an all time great but the only results will make a difference in the end. Earning a statue should be based on special accomplishments. Not as part of his Farewell Tour package.
This goes under the heading of “don’t tell me, show me!”
