Jerry West = 1 ring

Elgin Baylor = 0 rings

Time to demolish their statues?

Jerry West 7 rings. As for Lebron, 3 years doesn’t warrant a statue or jersey retirement.

But one season of Elfrid Payton in NOLA would get him all those things. Because he’s from Louisiana! 🤣🤣🤣

No he won't. I am surprised so many said yes. He would likely get his jersey retired just like Wilt did.

Wilt helped win a title, I think that the same would be required for Lebron.

So take Shaq down?
Shaq has 3

Durrr yeah. I have no idea why I wrote Shaq went I meant to say Jerry West lol
Big difference between logo and Lebron when it comes to Laker legends.

I voted NO. IMO LeBron doesn't have, will never have, the resume needed to have a statue at Staples. I can abide with his jersey being lifted to the rafters if he brings rings.

In my mind LeBron will never be a REAL Laker. No matter his achievments he will always be a Cavalier or Heat. If a statue of him is erected let it be at one of those venues.

OTOH Staples statues aren't hallowed grounds for Laker greats. Wayne Gretzky, Oscar DeLoya have statues. IMO the rafters are more respected.

Let’s put it this way. If Michael Jordan came back from baseball and played with NVE, Eddie Jones, and won a ring would he get a jersey retirement and a statue?

Definitely yes for the Jersey. Statue is a maybe. But I’m still saying yes for Lebron. He means so much to basketball and he’s such a global icon. It would help the Lakers remind future free agents that this could be them too. But he would have to be the beat player on the championship team.

It would probably depend on the level of excitement he generates and how much fans warmed to him, rather than any benchmark for what "qualifies" someone to get a statue.

And of course there's the politics of Magic and Jeanie probably wanting their first big free-agent signing to get a statue to validate themselves.

So I say if he gets a ring he probably also gets a statue

The better question is when will Luc Robitaille get a statue?

I think that, for our team's sake, it would be nice for him to have a statue provided that he earned it.

That would mean that our team would be winning a couple or three rings at the very least. I am perfectly fine with that.

That scenario gives us the most rings over the rest of the league.

If he only gets one ring, then we make the case to have a Wilt statue first.

Baylor got his statue for being a lifelong Lakers player despite not winning a ring.

You’re counting non-player rings?

Then Mitch needs a statue too, no?

I think you guys are trying to draw a hard line in the sand and that just isn’t how it works in reality. Their selection criteria is entirely subjective and probably aligns more with something like “he who embodies what it means to be a Laker”

I just think that you need to show what being a Laker is for more than 3-4 years.

This is a tough one but I vote no.

Obviously Lebron is a HOFer but I don't think Lebron would have spent enough time as a laker to qualify for a statue.

We're not some lame team like the Heat who retired Jordan's number even though he never played for them. If players get recognised at Staples, they should be recognised for their contribution as lakers.

PS: I don't think its just about number of rings. But the reason west etc get statues is partially because they're life long lakers and have contributed a lot to the organisation.

Lebron will be here 4 years and then I think he retires and goes into his second career in the media industry. I don't think 4 years is enough time spent as a laker.

For me it's about years of service, individual greatness and success. I just don't see how a short term rental like Lebron would measure up, but that's just my opinion.

I'd give Gasol and Bynum statues before Lebron, as well as retired jerseys. Unless Lebron somehow comes out and delivers more than two rings.

if he gets us 2 rings - I think maybe there is some discussion but ultimately no

if he gets 3, while breaking all the records he's set to break- yes, I think he'll get one

as long as he deserves it, the marketing behind it would be enormous. what other stadium would you have Kobe, Shaq, Kareem, Chick, Elgin, West and LeBron... unheard of

but again, he's got to win 3
