So take Shaq down?

You'd have to take Elgin down.

And Jerry West unless you are counting his titles as a GM.

I don't know if 1 championship would be enough. I know that sounds funny. But only in LA.
Also does he retire a Laker? If he goes back to CLE first chance possible and retires there. That might hurt his chances of getting a statue here as well.

Depends on how "spectacular" that one ring run was, and if he's just around for the 3 year minimum.

Crazy good playoff run? likely. Finishes up a Laker after a renewal? Maybe.

Are we taking away one of Shaq's titles from the 3 peat? I didn't get that memo.

Actually an interesting question.

Considering how far the lakers have fallen, I'd say yeah he gets a statue if we win a ring.

But considering his overall legend and what he's meant to the game I'd say there's a better than 50/50 chance he gets one even of he doesn't win a ring if he makes the lakers ultra competitive for 3-5 years.

Obviously Kobe gets one first.
Then maybe even Pau and Worthy get one though that would somewhat lower the statue standards as far as greatness to some degree

Jersey retirement is a lock

not just ring count but length of time he's here to establish himself as a true Laker legend. Obviously time is not on his side with his age.

one ring and 4 all-nba seasons? most likely not
one ring and 6 all-nba seasons? not sure
one ring and 8 all-nba seasons? yes

No knock on him personally though. I think if he wins another ring while taking out the Warriors' current core he should be considered by many as the GOAT when its all said and done.

If the warriors superteam is intact and healthy these next 4 yrs, we take them down then take the Celtics down... plus most likely he'll break all-time scoring in PnG, pass Magic/possibly gets as high as 3rd all-time assist in PnG, gonna be in top 10 all-time steals, MVP(s) in PnG...

1 ring alone plus those things... yeah, statue
none of the other stuff, need at least 2 rings

2 rings I would say for sure. 1 ring and a MVP might get him a statue too.

Agreed. I don't understand how a journeyman superstar could get a statue here for what's likely to be a very short stay.

The question is going to be Jersey vs No Jersey. Statue is pretty much off the table.

I don't even think a four year stint at the end of his career should earn a jersey retirement. I mean are we kinda saying all you have to do to get your jersey retired is come here and average 26 points for four years?

A Laker LeBron statue seems a unlikely direction, but hey, if he's to be the charismatic player that other statue honorees were - let it happen.

I voted NO. IMO LeBron doesn't have, will never have, the resume needed to have a statue at Staples. I can abide with his jersey being lifted to the rafters if he brings rings.

In my mind LeBron will never be a REAL Laker. No matter his achievments he will always be a Cavalier or Heat. If a statue of him is erected let it be at one of those venues.

OTOH Staples statues aren't hallowed grounds for Laker greats. Wayne Gretzky, Oscar DeLoya have statues. IMO the rafters are more respected.

Define ”real Laker.”

Is there any Laker statue for a player that played more years for another team?

So let's say if he plays at least 12 seasons for the Lakers at a high level, then he MIGHT get a statue. Otherwise, a jersey ceremony is the best he can hope for.

I certainly agree that the jersey retirement is not automatic, and I regard even the suggestion of a Lebron statue at Staples as absurd.

A Stu Lantz statue would be absurd.
A statue for a mount rushmore all time player depending on what happens during his tenure is completely within reason
