I've been following the NBA since 2009, I want to see an actual title contending New York team for once. They're always trash its actually annoying.
I was kind of a Knicks secondary fan during our down years post Showtime. That Knicks team would have banners if not for Jordan. Then the year Jordan stepped away to play baseball, the 7 game series in the Finals losing to Houston was great....but they were about a year too old. I think if Jordan leaves a year earlier, the Knicks win the Finals. Pat Riley was the coach....Ernie Gruneld was the GM......Ewing, Oakley, Starks, Doc Rivers, Anthony Mason, Charles Smith, Greg Anthony, Hubert Davis, Derek Harper....one of my favorite non-Laker teams.
They’re completely different they’re just similar body types and athletic and lightskin. They’re different types of leapers too. Gordon showed little success or promise really as a defender his first 4 years... Clarke is way more active, jumps way more often to disrupt plays/block - Gordon is a high leaper but like most leapers, he doesn’t do it extremely often and needs more time to load. Clarke’s whole game is based on leaping as much and as quick as possible, kinda like Shawn Marion, but w more rim protection opportunities.
Gordon wants to be a wing offensively and not a rim protector defensively. Clarke is very dissimilar to that.. Clarke is by far the more special athlete functionally. And they say he can kiss the rim, I think his vert is amazing he’s just not long enough to do crazy dunks
Clarke is way more similar to Dwight Powell... a “bigman “ .
Clarke wants to be a Center and Gordon wants to be a SG
I love Gordon and I love Clarke but they have nothing in common.
Gordon is more athletic, had better handles in college and has always had good mechanics on his J. Gordon plays more like a 2/3 and Clarke plays like a 4/5.
Clarke is a better defender. Better instincts and better rebounder. He has a hitch in his shot. His handles are OK but I would not trust Clarke creating for himself on the wing like I'd trust Gordon, even back when Gordon was at Arizona.
Gordon is legit wing in the NBA.
Clarke will be a non-stretch 4/5 until he gets a good shooting coach.
Gordon's strengths were always on the offensive end while Clarke's have always been on the defensive end. Hope this helps.
it is impossible to not consider the huge age difference between Gordon and Clarke coming into the draft. Gordon was extremely raw entering the draft...but a lot of that has to do with him being 18 years old. He is less than a year older than Clarke now....and is far more advanced than Clarke.
He’s more advanced on offense ya. Not D
so the guy I am watching defend and give Kawhi Leonard hell on television is not as good as Brandon Clarke on defense? Clarke could defend Kawhi Leonard as the primary defender for a game....and hold him to 16?
It’s just a bad game for Kawhi. He’d been avg 31 this series. Gordon hasn’t been a markedly above average defender all year.. maybe he’ll step it up sometimes in the playoffs. But yea generally Clarke is a significantly better defender
you have watched this playoff game, and your conclusion is it is all about Kawhi's struggles? You have not seen Gordon's length and athleticism give him issues much of the night?
OK....I am just going to disagree with a near 23 year old guy who has been defending guys from Santa Clara and Pacific most of the season being in the same conversation as a 23 year old guy in his 5th year in the NBA, matched up against Kawhi Leonard in the playoffs.
Gordon is Über athletic and has improved his defensive footwork and technique since entering the NBA, no question. I don't think he has the same defensive instincts as Clarke.
What can't be discounted in your observation is Gordon is guarding the guy the entire Magic team knows they need to stop. Putting your best athlete on Kawhi shrinks driving lanes. Add to that, the entire defensive game-plan is to help Gordon on any drive, it's not hard to see how/why Gordon could have success defensively in this 1 game against one of the best 2-way players in the NBA.
I think that gameplan would be effective against almost every team's best player outside of GSW, who has multiple "best players" to defend. Not taking anything away from Gordon...he's improved, no doubt.
I hope Zion goes to the Knicks so that (bleep) show can finally have a good team.

The 92 Blazers or 93 Suns would win games against NY, but ultimately wouldn't win no 4 games. Imagine Ewing vs Duckworth and Oliver Miller and old Mark West. Chuck and Clyde were excellent players, but no Hakeem, who could win big games largely by himself, who could convert clutch shots/blocks. Suns had a hole in their front line. Barkley would be defended by Oak. Mike was the difference, but the Bulls had great O and D, both. Four blocks on Smith in 93 for a huge win at MSG. They got it done. NY was iffy offensively from game to game, but their D would've stood up to those wuss Western teams. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!
What do you guys think if they end up in a spot and they draft Darius Garland or Coby White? Either could grow to be the backup point guard cause they have a higher upside to Caruso and still have A.C on the team.

I keep reshuffling guys on my draft list but right now I have Garland #3. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Garland has all of the tools to become an elite scoring guard. Shades of Dennis Smith Jr and Trae Young.
Coby White is the type of player that beats you and you just don't know how. He's not Über athletic and he's not a super flashy guy like Garland. He just knows how to exploit angles. He's also a bigger combo guard (6'5) while Garland is more like Steph/Trae sized (6'2-6'3 / 180).
I don't think you can go wrong with either next to Lonzo. Both would fill our need for a primary Attack guard and it would allow Lonzo to be more efficient as a spot up shooter.
Make no mistake, though. Both Garland and White project to be good off-ball shooters also. Both are good on or off the ball.
If you land either and we are fortunate to get Kawhi in Free agency, we're pretty much set.
Garland or White
Lonzo
Kawhi
LeBron
Me
That's a 50-55 win team, no question. Scoring would no longer be an issue.
White will probably struggle to finish in the NBA and I’m not sure what to expect from either guy in regards to shooting.
White did improve shooting at the rim as the year went on and I think he has more vertical pop and body control in the air than a guy like DLo. _________________ Under New Management

My issue comparing Garland and Trae is that Trae displayed elite passing vision and touch while Garland looked more like Collin Sexton when distributing (missing skip pass reads, etc).
It's not a deal breaker, but there's a real chance Garland is an undersized SG who can't even adequately defend PGs. _________________ Under New Management

Just speculating, but maybe some team made him a promise?
Perhaps, or maybe he figures that, in a weak draft, he'll still be a lock 1st round pick and that's worth passing up the chance that he could be a sure lottery pick next year. If he gets hurt again, he might be truly done.

If their shot translates into NBA, they both will be starting point guards.
