|
|
Let me preface this by saying I love Bynum.
I do think he'll end up a very good center.
There's also a chance he ends up a 10-10 guy. Also a chance he ends
up a great.
Point is, we don't know - and given his age - we may not know until
Kobe is past his prime.
I'll also say that I'm against a LO-for-Boozer swap straight-up.
But I was playing with the trade-checker a bit and this was something
I came into.
Lakers Give:
Kwame Brown ($7.5M)
Andrew Bynum ($1.9M)
Stanislav Medvedenko ($3.0M)
Lakers Receive
Carlos Boozer ($11.2M)
Deron Williams ($3.5M)
Why the Lakers might do this:
It surrounds Kobe, while still in his prime, with a full starting lineup and
a 2nd/3rd option in Boozer and Lamar.
It also ensures that the 2nd option we'd like to get ahead of Odom in the
pecking order is a post-player (not adding a star PG and becoming a
perimeter team).
This caps us out as far as future plans. But we have so much youth on
our squad. Everyone is under contract for 2 years or more after this
season with the exception (I think) of Mihm (up in 2007?).
Our roster...
Player (age)
C - Chris Mihm (25)
PF - Carlos Boozer (24)
SF - Lamar Odom (26)
SG - Kobe Bryant (27)
PG - Deron Williams (21)
First off bench: Cook, George, Smush.
Why the Jazz might do this:
They really need to move Boozer. It's obvious he doesn't want to be
there and they feel (to some extent rightly so) that they gave him too
much money.
With Kwame and Bynum coming in, they can keep Kirilenko at SF where
they'd like him to play and us Kwame at PF to replace Boozer's size
immediately. They also have a great prospect in the future with Bynum.
Slava helps them clear a little cap-space in the process.
While they loved Deron enough to select him when they did, he also hasn't
shined enough to where he's an untouchable if the right deal came along.
Getting Boozer out of there may be important enough that he can be
included with a young prospect like Bynum in the mix.
Again, I'm not even saying I'd necessarily do this, but I have to admit it's
very interesting to think about.
It gives us a full starting-roster that can compete pretty darned well even
immediately.
It also gives us youth across the board - not too much, to where
inexperience hurts us (with the exception of D.Williams maybe) - but
enough to where none of these guys will be on the decline for years.
Kobe remains the clear vet in the pecking order and can remain
comfortable with his leadership of the team. There is no ball-dominant
player being brought in to shake things up in the wrong way.
Any thoughts? |

Like I said I'm not obsessed with Boozer, but if we could get him and
Deron without losing LO - it would give us a formidable roster.
And I agree they won't "give up" on Deron yet - but if they're getting
Bynum back and able to move Boozer in a deal they consider fair, that's
not really giving up on him. |

This trade would be just palin bad if it happened and I liked how someone said it took Boozer longer to get back from a hammy injury than Turief with the heart operation......You give to much credit to LO....He cannot make open shots and makes to many bad decisions...Two years of LO and have not seen him mesh with Kobe |

If you're gonna trade Bynum, I'd rather have Okur back than Boozer.
BTW, Kwame would melt under the red sun that is Jerry Sloan.
But it's a moot pt. anyway -- Deron will be in Utah for awhile, at least. And he isn't the greatest defender in the world.
