If they did, I missed it. Did they hire someone from the outside or just promote internally? Or no move announced yet? Thanks.

If they add someone to the staff I hope it’s Gary Payton.

Defensive assistant coach?

That's Brian Keefe, who did outstanding last season in that role, as evidenced by the drastic turnaround that no one predicted.

Why not right?

Could be a valuable mentor to Lonzo. Watching film with Magic, Rondo and The Glove? Yes please.

What would be his title? Player Toughness Development Coach? This team has a number of hard-nosed, competitive guys. I don't think toughness will be an issue at all.

Jud was irreplaceable.

But if we must try, I'd suggest Larry Coon. Imagine having our very own CBA coach, offering salary cap calculation tips during timeouts, at practice, on plane flights, etc. No team has never had anything like it.

Larry Coon is better suited in a front-office role, then a Assistant coach, but maybe that’s just me

I look at it in a bigger, long term picture. Even if it’s for only a year or two, having the Glove around Lonzo everyday could be great for his development and bode him well in the future, assuming he is open to coaching. That goes for Hart too.

The kid's already got enough people talking in his ear.

No idea what was Jud's AC role on the team other than successfully coaching our SPL team but I'm sure it can be filled by one of the Luke's other ACs.

Hire an AC that might help us recruit a free-agent next summer.

But would it really be worth it to add him to the staff for that? They could just ask him to work with those guys if that was the case.

Besides, though GP was a beast defensively in his era, he played when hand-checking was still allowed. This is a very different age.

Jud's role was player development.

Jeopardy buzzer - bzzzzt. Sorry, no.

GP must rank near the 95th percentile of guys from this sport who shown little knack for communicating with peers and players. He knows basketball, but the disconnect between his brain and mouth should frighten away hiring authorities.
