Per Bres (although Luke already said that they weren’t going to try and rush Rondo back because of Lonzo)
Just when the injury news appeared to be improving for the Lakers...
Lonzo Ball out 4-6 weeks with a Grade 3 left ankle sprain.
Luke Walton said yesterday it was doubtful Rondo would play Monday vs. Golden State. But that was before Lonzo’s injury.

INTERESTING LONZO TWEETS

Everywhere I've looked has said that a Grade 3 ankle sprain is a full rupture that takes longer than 4-6 weeks to heal from. @3cbPerformance gave some additional context here that could explain the more optimistic timeline. He's a good follow if you have injury questions.

And Per Dr. Rajpal Brar, DPT
A grade 3 ranges from 75% torn to 100% torn (full rupture). W/ the latter, surgery is indicated whereas in the former (depending on extent) the ligament is still attached enough to heal. It’s a spectrum & Zo likely falls on the lower end of grade 3.

Yeah probably lower end. It's definitely a tear. IMO no way he's back in 4...more like 6-8. Just can't catch a break...just when he 's getting it and playing well. |

Josh Hart will start with Lonzo Ball out according to Luke Walton. Ball is at Staples Center with a boot on. He was carted to the locker room from the parking ramp down the long way because the normal route there was closed off before the game.

To clarify/correct the below tweet, LeBron did 5-on-0 non-contact work yesterday, not 5-on-5. That’s basically just offensive shell drills running through plays, with no defense.

ICYMI - LUKE ON RONDO FROM LAST NIGHT
I went to the game so I didn’t see any of the post game shows. But apparently Luke said this last night.

Luke Walton said he thinks Rajon Rondo will play Thursday barring any setbacks. Rondo has missed 14 straight games. As for LeBron James, Walton said, "I haven't seen him do contact yet so you know I don't feel as confident. I know that you know how serious he is about his rehab so he is doing everything possible. We've talked. I know he is dying to get back on the basketball court but he also knows getting healthy is top priority. Whenever that day comes, he will be back out there but I would say right now I feel more confident about Rondo being ready for Thursday."

Rajon Rondo said he “hopes for the best tomorrow,” in terms of returning, but it’s not certain yet that he’ll be able to play. He said Thursday will be 3 weeks and 4 days into a 4-5 week original prognosis. He’ll go through shootaround and pregame warm ups, then we’ll see.

Walton said the Lakers have different plans in place whether Rondo is able to play or not. Brandon Ingram will still play some point guard even if Rondo plays, depending on minutes, conditioning, etc.

RONDO TAKING THINGS DAY BY DAY

Rajon Rondo said he's still taking things day-by-day when asked if he will play tomorrow. Rondo says his decision to play could be a game-time decision. While he hasn't had any swelling, he sounded hesitant because he hasn't had any contact. He said he was like a quarterback in practice today with the red jersey signifying not to touch him. "Except for Lance, he hacked me a couple of times on my jersey and my shoulders," Rondo said. "... I got to come back when I'm healthy. Things happen for a reason, I don't know why. I can't come back depending on whether [other] guys are out or not."
