Los Angeles Lakers: 5 big man trade candidates to consider

"With a sizable hole in their big man rotation, the Los Angeles Lakers should be active on the trade market for a serviceable big man."

Are the Lakers desperate enough to bring back Drew or sign Joakim Noah?

So do we lock the thread now?

I'm glad the team didn't settle.

Keep it open, I'm elated!

I know we want to talk about getting a legit backup center but it's not just about production. They don't have to run McGee into the ground or bank on him not having a night where he gets into foul trouble. They can also now scheme for a rim protector and lob threat for a full game.

Having a center is so important. With garbage zu in there we were able to take the lead.

Williams is on a limited 2 way contract. Can only be with the Lakers 45 days. I would not be surprised if they chose to save some of those days for later in the season.

Still interested to see if Wagner can earn some mpg. If not he and Zubac are likely in suits most nights waiting for the inevitable injury or night off for a player in front of them.

Looking forward to seeing how effective the the tandem of McGee and Chandler can be.

I really wish we'd retained Lopez and Randle. A platoon of McGee/Chandler/Lopez/Randle at the center position actually would have been pretty solid. McGee is giving us All-Star level production in his 20 minutes-- just need to soak up the other 28.

I think the Lakers are set - this year.

I think the Chandler pickup is going to allow Moe Wagner to stick around the GLeague and play a lot more games. Moe has time now to develop strength, gain experience, and find his 3 point shot against a better tier of competition than he faced in college.

At some point I expect Wagner's going to throw out dominant nights on a regular basis at South Bay. That will be a good time for an NBA audition game or two. I like the thought of Zubac sticking around as third string insurance big until Mo is ready to make an impact and prove he's the better option on both ends of the floor.

Javale, Tyson, and Zu could all be gone next year. If we pick up AD this coming summer, we'll still need a backup center. If we pick up KL instead, we're going to need Moe even more. I think the fastest way to develop Wagner is playing full time in the G League, not sitting at the end of the Laker bench waiting for garbage time to get a few minutes in.

I couldn't agree more. Excellent summary.

McGee is actually at 27 mpg. So more like you need to cover about 20 minutes. Chandler, plus a few minutes here and there for Zubac/Wagner/small ball center should cover that (and hopefully keep that small ball center stuff to about 2 minutes or less situationally).

I would prioritize retaining Javale. Even if we somehow swindle the Pels into making up for the CP3 trade and giving us AD, it would be nice having the best rim protecting duo in the league for your center rotation. Javale has blossomed here this season and as long as his asking price isn't absurd, we should try to lock him up for the rest of Lebron's contract.
