I had it tonight for the first time and it was terrible. Expensive too-- $36 for a burger and fries. It's not even close to being as good as In 'N Out.

36 dollars? HOw many orders of fries did you get?

Umami is pretty decent. Better than any fast food for sure.

That's not the price at any Umami burger I've been to.

Even through a delivery service in Santa Monica, an Umami burger and fries with fee+tax+tip is less than $36.

Was this a UmamiXXX burger or something? Burger/fries/lap dance?

I had Umami burger at the LAX international terminal. I thought it was pretty good. But for the money it's not worth it. In N Out hands down has the best burgers. I always get 2 cheeseburgers when I go there. 1 regular and 1 protein style.

Try G Burger.

Their caprese burger + fried egg is probably the best casual burger I've had.

Total price is about 15 bucks for the burger + fries.

The best burger joint no longer exists. It was LINK Build your own burger. Fresh ground beef, burgers cooked to order, rare, medium rare, done, well, choice of condiments, onions cooked or raw, cheese, lettuce, tomato. I heard the shack couldn't be torn down but had to be rehabbed and incorporated into any new development. I think it's been torn down and the lot is now affordable housing apartments.

The only thing missing from that photo is a chalk outline of a body. We have a Fatburger over here in MDR and I'm the only one among friends who would rather eat there than In-n-Out.

Fatburger now is nowhere near what the original was. I haven't been to a burger joint in years. Last one was the In-N-Out on Century Blvd. I was not impressed with the burger. Have to try a Umami the menu look appetizing.

At the original in the 60's that would be about $1.50

Umami is, in my opinion, a product of the "upscale" burger trend that swept through LA on a wave of brioche buns and artisanal aiolis. The city has finally come around to the acknowledgement that when it comes to burgers it is best to embrace what's greasy and cheesy and unpretentious about them. Fatty, melty, griddle style burgers are coming in waves now and my belly is grateful.

Habit Teriyaki burger. No cheese needed.

In-N-out gives me indigestion due to the high fat content. The sugar in the buns makes it tasty though.

Being a Los Angelino for nearly 25 years, I took for granted how tasty and cheap In-n-Out is. I crave that burger and def get it several times when I'm back home. I'm not a fan of the burger places out here, though a Habit just opened up (and I never ate that in LA growing up!).

Anyone here eaten at BUNZ in Huntington Beach?

Really great Burgers, awesome fries, super reasonable prices:

On Yelp they have:
Over 600 "5" ratings
And only 7 "1" ratings
That is over 85:1 (positives)

This place is legit...!

LINK: https://www.yelp.com/biz/bunz-huntington-beach-3

Wanna compare them to Umami;
On Yelp they have
595 "5" ratings
103 "1" ratings
That is less 6:1 (positives)

If your going to the Umami Burger Downtown. Don't! Go to Burgerlords instead. It's still a pricey burger. But it is LEAGUES better.
