This is the team we have...silly trade ideas serve no purpose imo

I see a powerful offensive engine that needs to be fine tuned and a long defense that needs to be dialed in

It wasn’t that bad imo. Fix the shooting and they will be fine.

They got beat inside on defense but the potential is there with length and high activity to bother the opponent. They had spurts of really good defense.

Why trade McGee?

Randle would have done little to remedy the problems we had today... we scored an enormous amount in the paint.

We needed 3 point shooting and another long body to use against Nurkic, Leonard, and Collins... none of what Julius does.

Julius is going to do great for the Pelicans... but we needed Brook tonight.

Rockets looked like crap. Melo is a team killer. Can't wait to see him switch on LeBron.

I don't think reactions to the shooting are an overreaction. We were a bad shooting team all year last year. Who among Lance, Beasley, Rondo, and Javale is supposed to change that?

The hope was (is?) for internal improvement because sometimes young players do get better at shooting.

I think modest improvement is the most we can expect. if we can get 35% from Ingram or Ball, that's a win for their own improvement, but it doesn't significantly move the needle for us when they're both reluctant shooters. Ingram's 39% last year was on 2 attempts a game. Can he maintain that at volume? I think KCP's 37% was a fluke. Kuzma i think will be a 37% lifer.

I've always thought 3-point shooting was contagious, in both directions. Seeing your teammates make em helps you make em. But when people start clanking, seems like everyone does. We needed veteran 3-point shooting and convinced ourselves the young guys got it.

Ball put up around six 3PA per36 last season after being really hesitant to start the season, fwiw. But he looks tentative and I could see him deferring a lot more this season.

And Hart looked like he could legitimately be a 38%+ shooter from deep last season after a slow start.

It was never going to be enough for this season, but I'm more concerned they trade youth or assets to address short-term fixes that could've been better addressed with the $20M spent in free agency. They need to let the young guys grow around Lebron even if it means clanking shooting nights like tonight from BI, Ball, and Kuz.

Last year we would have lost by 20 or more in Portland under the same circumstances. I consider tonight a success, as much as I wanted to see a win. Saturday will be very tough too. I don't expect us to hit a stride until at least 10-15 games into the season. Stay patient my friends...

I still don’t understand why Brook wasn’t brought back

He even said he would sacrifice if a star(s) came

This season is starting to feel like the 2013 season vibes were we started off really slow, hopefully LeBron’s greatness puts us in a great position until this team clicks together

Next game is at home. I think we'll win most of our home games like usual starting with the next two. I actually think we will be favored against Houston at home.

One of the insiders here said he heard Brook didn't want to come back.

Any other reason doesn't make much sense.

I would not go too far by saying we are definitely not making the playoffs, this is afterall just one game, and the first game. Yet, I am concerned. Lets not make excuses for our loss tonight, Portland did not own us tonight. We lost not because Portland is too good, its because we are that bad.

The team desperately need to find a way to improve shooting. Stop with all the defense focus non-sense, if you look at the games that we won, we won because we score more than the opposite team, not because our defense is working. We still suck at that area and looks like we will be for the rest of the season. We just need our guys to get together and put the ball in the basket properly.

I think the points are inflated because of pace. We played old school Loyola Marymount style... so both teams were going to score a ton of points...

We had like ten steals... my only beef was we had no length to counteract the giants... and Luke didn't assign Ingram to lock down Stauskas when he got hot. But the effort and intensity were there.

Don’t ignore our defensive woes - Luke has yet to instill any defensive philosophy so we have to score

As long as LBJ stays cool with it... missing the playoffs isn't the worst thing that can happen... We'd add a lotto pick and an elite free agent on top of this already potent lineup. Obviously I don't want to tank... but I'm not dreading it because we'd replace one of the garbage vets with a first rounder and we'd add the elite.

I don't know Rondo looked great tonight. Lonzo just needs to be more aggressive offensively. The word is out on this kid that he likes to pass first.

He's gotta attack more. Mamba Mentality needs to be engage by Zo to throw these scouting reports off

for decades now I get the feeling from watching the shooting at the Rose Garden is that the rims are a little off in some way with the east rim being different from the west...
