Here comes heat!!!!

Quote:
In a meeting on Tuesday following a winless two-game trip, Los Angeles Lakers president Magic Johnson admonished coach Luke Walton for the team's sluggish start to the season, league sources told ESPN.

Johnson's cutting appraisal elevated an already acute awareness within the Lakers coaching staff that there are intense and immediate pressures on Walton to deliver the franchise a winner in short order.

UPDATE INFORMATION:

Quote:
“I said it, Luke took it and we’re all good,” Johnson told The Times. “It’s no big deal.”

Johnson insisted that Walton is not on a clock. He was asked if there’s any chance Walton would not finish the season as the Lakers’ head coach.

“He’s going to finish the season,” Johnson said. “Unless something drastic happens, which it won’t.”

Quote:

During their meeting, Johnson shouted and cursed at Walton. At one point he chided Walton for interrupting him. He wanted to see an offensive system that had yet to be implemented, and made other suggestions.

Luke texting Jeanie during the meeting about Magic's crappy roster building and not signing a reserve center....along with a screen grab of Randles stats this season.

What about heat for Magic for some of the roster moves?

Signing Beasley, letting Brook walk for the min, not putting priority on Julius during the previous season to make him want to stay? No shooters?

if a spotlight gets pointed in that direction, Magic will duck and allow it to shine on Rob.

Luke has been extremely disappointing to be honest. His rotations suck, his lack of player development is quite worrisome as well. He has a very talented team and he just can’t seem to get them to play at the level that’s expected of them. I’m tired of him constantly getting out coached out there

I would consider this one step toward the good news of firing Walton and his frat boy assistant coaches as long as the new coach is NOT one of the following:

Byron Scott
Phil Jackson
B Shaw
Kurt Rambis
Mark Jackson

Luke finally has his starting lineup going forward. That’s a positive.

This is funny.

Magic and Rob: Man, we're not winning, what can we do?

Magic: Let me go tell Luke we need to win more.

Magic to Luke: You need to win more!!!!

Luke: You make a good point Magic.

Luke to the team: ok guys, disregard what I said yesterday. Apparently, the team wants us to "win more." [rolls eyes]

Result: Lakers start winning more....

"As I was talking to Luke (with Pelinka), we said don't worry about if we get out to a bad start," Johnson told reporters in September. "We have seen that with LeBron going to Miami, and we have seen that when he came back to Cleveland. He is going to struggle because there are so many new moving parts. But eventually we are going to get it, and we are going to be a really good team."

Is Magic is just relaying this new message from someone else?

"IF" Luke feels any pressure from the FO about who to play, and when to play them....he should abandon all of those thoughts, and soley focus on winning. This info leaked to the media, and I bet I could guess who initiated that leak with one guess.....so Luke should know only winning will save his job via Jeanie.

Agree and he should stick to it...unless he really does not want to get fired.

Luke is an awful coach who employs a bunch of yes men on his coaching staff. Literally no succesful coach has ever won by hiring a staff full of his buddies and anyone with a UOFA connection.

Probably trying to light a fire before this brutal back to back. If it's not that, then I think this is way too premature. We've had probably the toughest schedule in the NBA, faced suspensions to starters, our PG is working his way back from knee surgery. Did anyone expect a winning record at this point?

Precisely.

Never liked Walton. Guy got way too much credit for that baby sitting he did on that Warriors' team. He never really earned this coaching gig and a massive red flag is that Maginka didn't hire him. Sure, when there were zero expectations nobody really noticed.

It's funny how after this meeting he rode the starters more. Lakers need a coach in the mold of Mike Buldenhozer, what a great hire by Milwaukee. See what a good coach can do to a team? Milwaukee looked like crap last year.

I think Luke needs to have at least this full year. I do agree its worrisome that we have lost so many close games and let big lead turn into losses. Even with some roster moves that are Magic and Rob's fault, these are games that should have been won.

Luke will hopefully figure it out and pick it up but he should get the full year before a drastic move is made. I mean sheesh, who is a better coach out there to bring it anyway?

Everyone is to blame for the slow start.

Magic - For not having the right bullpen.
Pelinka - No adages in our slow start.
Lebron - For not being 2006 Kobe.
Kobe - For not being 2012 Lebron.
Shaq - Ordering Tossed Salad on Stage.
Walsh, Nwaba, Wear - For not making the squad.
Luke - Cheering for the Celtics as a child.

The list goes on and on...

yeah, I kind of did. I do not think Luke is the only issue....or even the biggest issue....but I expected to start off with at least a winning record.

That would be up to Jeanie. That's Magic's boss. Magic is Luke's boss, and unless you think Luke has done a great job thus far, a stern talking to is appropriate.
