NBA hipsters are mostly skinny fat 20-something white dudes, which is why they'll hype Luka Doncic as the second coming until the day he retires.

He would be a great pickup for the Lakers next season.

Russell Westbrook will never win a championship.

Ben Simmons is overrated. Brandon Ingram has a higher ceiling.

feels like you are about a decade off from my experience....most NBA hipsters I know were that 10-15 years ago....now they are the same, but closing in on 40.

I will say the NBA is catering to the ... less athletic fans out there. And alot of the media members fit that description.
It's partly why Curry was the first unanimous MVP ever. But his individual defense was one of the worst of all the MVPs in my lifetime.
Subconsciously, fans live vicariously through their favorite players. The average 2018 NBA fan could never imagine being athletic like Kobe or MJ. But they can imagine themselves splashing 3s from half court.

Steve Nash would be the gold standard for this. But you may be on to something.

There is a defensive player of the year award but not an offensive player of the year award. That's because everyone knows the MVP is really an award for what people do on offense.

Is it even a hot taek to say Doncic was the obvious #1 pick? How about that Ayton was the third best big man in the draft?

I'd say it's pretty hot but tbh I haven't watched Carter much
