Similar experience... hadn't shot in years because too busy at work... went to a new gym late at night because I didn't want to make an ass out of myself and shot 60% after one day of practice.

Not as good as Math did... but I think I could have got back up to my high school days of 80% if someone gave me 10,000 a year to practice... let alone 10 million.

Mystified why pros can't shoot.

great, now defend him.
you give me 4 other nba players. and I would defend big ben simmons. Just backup to the FT line. go ahead, SHOOT or run me over for the charge. your choice.

Is going around you not an option for Ben Simmons?

Yeah that was my whole thought too. It's not a work ethic or incentive issue. Can't be. Got me thinking about the effect of large hands on shooting. It's all I can come up with.

There is something weird about our team when the only guy who can shoot FTs is the guy who doesn't want to be here.

Even Svi can't make FTs. He's a shooter. Like why is he 5 of 10? Makes no sense.

It feels like we just practice running fast breaks and didn't work on the fundamental things.

havent shot around seriously in forever but I'd say I probably shot like 80% FT when practicing alone. But do I think I could jump into a NBA game and shoot FTs anywhere near as good as that or atleast better than Lebron? no way

Raise your hand if...

-You've ever shot free throws in front of 17000 people
-You've ever shot free throws while playing at NBA speed

These guys have been playing in front of large crowds their entire lives. If pace is the issue then they should've been better conditioned, because 28 other teams aren't this abysmal

Yeah, that doesn't hold up.

Math, you basically shot Lebron's career FT percentage (.740 to his career .738). Lebron is having his second worst year of FT% so far at .689. Next worse is two years ago at .674. Could it be a fatigue issue as he is getting older? I would be pleased if he got back up to his career average, which he basically did last year at .731.

Raise your hand if you've played in more than a church rec league?

Or high school?

Or college?

Or any international pro ball?

Or the G league of the G league?

No one's saying they're as good as an NBA or college player... let alone LBJ

But let's say you know how to cook eggs.

Sure if you go on Masterchef or Top Chef you might burn or overcook them.

Would I overcook them after playing 16 seasons at 82 episodes each?

Nope.

Yeah if I went at halftime and had to make a free throw in front of a crowd I'd be nervous.

But if I did it for 16 years I wouldn't.

If you followed his career you would know that his career free throw percentage is 74%. This year he is a little lower at 70%. Hopefully he can get it back up to his career average.

No, I am saying I'm a better NBA player than Lebron James.

People say this kind of crap all the time but don't realize just how amazing these guys are in playing basketball. Played against some DI college guys in pickup before and it was no joke. I can't imagine how good an NBA player is.

Now, FTs? I guess one could get a thrill saying they could shoot it better than Shaq. OK. Now what?

Wilt shot 51%
Shaq shot 53%
Bill Russell 56%

Really not the point, dude. The point is why can't the best players in the world figure out what seems to be one of the most simple aspects of the game? And, moreover, guys who shoot well from other spots on the court with dudes draped all over them.

You have to admit it's a weird thing.

The point isn't that anyone thinks they are 1% of an NBA player's skill

The point is if any average joe can do it... why can't they?

Because not every player has the same skill set.

You can have a bunch of Steve Kerrs on your team hitting 90%+ from the line, but he would lack in other areas of the game.

Is it disappointing he's not a great FT shooter? Of course. But he is great at so many other things.

I will never understand how a dude can pull up in a game from 35 feet and knock it down near 35% of the time.....but can't crack 70% from 15 feet on a dead ball. I think Kobe only shot under 80% 1 out of 20 seasons, Jordan 1 out of 15 seasons....Magic shot 76% his 2nd and 3rd season, but shot a higher career % than Kobe or Jordan.
