Why have we not hired one?
This will not fly in the playoffs and teams will just start playing a little more aggressive on us knowing we cant knock them down anyway. |

I don't think Luke has any buddies that are shooting coaches. That's the criteria to be on the staff. |

To be honest players should have their own coaches too. The organization shouldn't have to hold the players hand in development, they need to take a little onus on that themselves.
In my opinion this was the problem the Lakers had when they didn't have good quality veterans in the team along with all the youngsters. If you have good veterans they show the youngsters exactly what they need to do, if you have a team of Nick Youngs, not so much.
Kuzma has always had good work ethic, but Lonzo didn't take gym work seriously until after he had a bad run of injuries. A person like McGee who works hard after every game just shows the professionalism required.
In my opinion people should be getting their own shooting coaches if the Lakers don't fork out for one. |

Depends. Can someone name all the shooting coaches for each team?
My understanding was that most teams did not have a dedicated "shooting" coach. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. |

I can't believe they still haven't hired one.
That was partially on Luke in summer 2017 for saying they didn't need one, and partially on Magic for going along with it.
This is now 100% on Magic. It's ridiculous. |

The Spurs have one and look at the success they have had developing their players shooting. That is enough of an example for Luke to get one. Not to mention our horrific shooting the last couple seasons, it's obvious we need more emphasis in that area |

Interesting articles, though I have to say I found the data fairly sketchy. There were a lot of anecdotes about specific players, but the data points had a lot of holes in them, such as not taking into account roster changes that changed the quality of shooters on a team. |

Magic decided to create an imaginary position for Rambis therefore there are no more funds for a shooting coach. |

The Lakers are 28th in the league in free throw shooting at 70.6%. Clearly, whatever the staff is doing is not enough. _________________ āWhen the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.ā

I'm pretty fed up with Luke hiring his college buddies for the staff instead of finding the best guys for the job like his mentor Kerr does. It will be his downfall imo. _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketballā¦but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."

Is on the players. They are millionaire s for Christ sake. Does a shooting coach will help LeBron not to miss 4 freethows in a row? |

Itās crazy to think that one of the most dominant players of all time, Wilt Chamberlain, was a career 51% free throw shooter. However, there was an exception to his awful career percentage...the ā61-62 season which includes his 100 point game. That season he improved to a career best 61%.
In the 100 point game he went 28 for 32. What was the difference?
In that game, and in that season, he shot underhanded free throws. Thatās right, almost nobody knows this today, but Wilt shot the āGranny Shotā from the free throw line in his 100 point game.
Malcolm Gladwell has a podcast and in one episode he talks about why people sometimes do dumb things even when they know itās dumb. Wilt would have been essentially unstoppable if he was willing to put results at the free throw line over how he looked shooting them. He said, āI felt silly, like a sissy, shooting underhanded. I know I was wrong. I know some of the best shooters in history shot that way. Even now, the best one in the NBA, Rick Barry, shoots underhanded. I just couldnāt do it.ā
As Gladwell said, āChamberlain had every incentive in the world to keep shooting free throws underhanded, and he didnāt. I think we understand cases where people donāt do what they ought to because of ignorance. This is not that. This is doing something dumb even though you are fully aware you are doing something dumb.ā
If this Lakers team could increase their odds of winning a championship by adopting the underhanded free throw, would you support it? |

^yes. And it would look much better than clanking off the rim. Maybe Lonzo can learn to shoot underhand jump shots? _________________ We only celebrate championships.

Luke wouldnāt be hiring a shooting coach, the FO would. So thereās that. It took them a year to hire an analytics guy, so a couple of years for a shooting coach seems timely. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Technically the front office hires everyone but since it is a coaching position, I believe the onus is on Luke. Just like how the front office rubberstamped the assistant coaches.
But I'm willing to share some of this on Magic/Pelinka. They could make it happen but don't. They could also fire Luke also but don't. So thats two strikes there. |
