So by now we should all assume that LA isn't going to make big deal before the deadline, as we have seen in the past that there is usually only one major deadline trade, which never seems to involve the Lakers.

The only thing true that has consistently been reported through the media is that a) LA needs guard help, preferably a veteran and b) that all blockbuster trades are being held off til summertime as everyone wants to see if KG will ever be on the block. All teams must believe that after another losing season this year, KG will want out and will finally be on the block. Therefore, the one (see above) trade deadline blockbuster deal that will happen this year is going to involve Francis b/c as we all know, he has to get moved.

Keeping in mind that Francis will be traded and that we will not be landing TMac in that deal (as much as we wish this would happen), LA needs to acquire a guard that will provide some scoring to lighten the load on Kobe. So here are some ideas:

1) We trade George to Hornets for JR Smith (fillers to match salary)

2) If hornets prefer a big (which is want they are looking for) we give them Cook instead (fillers to match salary)

3) How about a deal with NJ? They desperately need a big, why not Kwame for Marc Jackson and a 1st round pick

4) Boozer for Slava, George and Mihm

Let me know which deals you guys like and what you want to see be done before the deadline that can keep us in the playoff runnings.

Maybe Flip Murray for any combination of Slava/George/picks.

1) I'd be up for this. JR seems like a bit of a headcase and a step back from George this season but there's no questioning his talent. His potential is much higher than George, who is gone after the season anyway. Also, Byron doesn't like him and he gives us a potential star for the future. Imagine how he could do if Kobe took him under his wing and tutored him? I just don't see why NO does this?

2) Again, I dig it for the Lakers, but I don't really see why NO does this. Too much potential to give up on too early.

3) I don't like this one. We know Kwame sucks, but he's still got the dreaded "upside" and he's a young, athletic defender. I don't think he'll be a ben wallace type, but hey, stranger things have happened. Marc Jackson is done. He has a nice mid-range jumper, but he doesn't rebound or play defense - he has nowhere to go with his game but down.

4) I'm an anti-boozer guy. Not gonna have as much impact in the west with all the big PF's, way overpriced, doesn't create his own shots, too small to play good man-man D, not a weakside shot blocker, and oh yeah, hasn't played in a year due to the weakest hamstring in the civilized world. Pass.

Since when has anyone taken realism seriously around here?

While I don't have any reason to believe there is any sort of large deal in the works involving the Lakers, other than the little bits of rumor and innuendo floating around on occasion, I have learned assumptions based on past behavior aren't really a good idea.

DG for Derek Anderson...

Lakers add Lamar Odom and Rockets add T-Mac as filler.

I'd offer Odom and Slava's contract to New York for Marbury and Ariza. Marbury alone if that is what it takes. (realistic in that Brown LOVES Odom and not so much Marbury)

Than I'd offer Mihm, Smush, McKie, and the Miami #1 to Atlanta for Harrington. My fall back position is to offer Mihm, George, and pieces to Utah for Boozer (realistic in that BOTH Atlanta and Utah have publicly said tehy would like to add a big body to their rosters plus we all know that both Boozer and Harrington are most likely going to be traded).

Offer Sprewell a TWO year contract ... this years half MLE we have left and a significant raise for next year (realistic because we HAVE to offer two years so he can feed his kids).

My rotation becomes ...

SG - Kobe
PG - Marbury
C - Brown/Bynum
PF - Harrington or Boozer/Cook/Turiaf
SF - Sprewell/George or Walton/Ariza

I truly believe this lineup would be a mature Bynum away from winning it all. IN year three with Bynum starting and a youngster replacing Spre ... we win it all

Not bad, although I would rather have Mihm than Battie.

After this summer I realized that its better to sit back and not really pay attention to any rumor until it becomes official. Im sure that all the insiders have some inside info but there have been numerous times when these guys have been wrong. Thats just the nature of the Bis, Im sure the Gms talk all day about trades and our insiders sometimes get info about these possible deals. However they rarely if ever happen so just sit back and relax until Thursday when we go back to realizing that this is the team we are most likely going to have for the rest of the season

I don't buy into any of these rumors because really, none of them make much sense. Also, if you look at history, every single year we hear a ton of different rumors like this, and without fail, most of them never come to pass.

Realistically, how about some minor moves that improve us a little? I don't think we have the trade assets for a big move for a star, but some small adjustments might help us get into the playoffs and give us future assets to trade with.

I'd love for the Lakers to get someone like Josh Childress if they could do it on the cheap...say, for Cook. Cook gives Atlanta some additional size and shooting, while Childress gives us a good all around player much like Odom - which would then free us to package Odom into a deal for a big over the summer. Atlanta needs to get rid of one of their wing players and it looks like Harrington, Smith, and JJ are more highly valued by them than J Chill.

Another target would be someone like John Salmons from Philly (he did great with Iverson out) or Gadzurich from Milwaukee to bolster the front line.

Neat, but how do we give Spree big money next year? Kobe + Marbury is already much cap room, heightened when you potentially add in Boozer.
