It was an invitation to the lane at will, which either results in him scoring or have the defense in scramble mode when he kicks out. I’d rather give him couple steps force him shoot over you.

It doesn't matter, Harden will run into the nearest defender in order to draw the foul anyways.

I thought the plan was good. We lost because Shaw and the assistants have crapped the bed on out of bounds plays and the lopsided officiating.

The game plan was obviously working. We were up 21 at one point. Zo got injured. They had to hit 2 lucky threes at the end of regulation to beat a depleted laker team at home. Yes they’re missing Capella and Paul but they still have their superstar and Gordon. All we had left were young kids and no point guard.

what do you do once he goes by you? just give up the 2 points every time? what do you do when he just runs into it? keep backing up instead?

That shadowing defense was only working when Harden was kicking to the open man and they were bricking wide open shots. When he attacked the basket, it failed. When his teammates made wide open threes, it failed.

Harden seems to do this every game. Tries to get his teammates going early and then does his thing later. His teammates just werent hitting early. They had wide open looks.

i thought the defensive game plan was bad from the start. everyone was open for the rockets but they just missed. The Lakers tightened it up in the 2nd half but they started hitting their shots...

I'm wondering if we should have just forced him left? I get he's a lefty, but he always steps back to his right for 3s. I don't watch him that much, but I feel like I haven't seen his step-back 3 going to his left. We were letting him into the lane at will either way.

good game plan...it worked

the Rockets game plan of playing no d in the first half then turn it up in the end was risky

Unfortunately losing Zo played a huge part in our offensive sputtering. Kuz is lit but he shines next to a guy like Zo (and of course Bron).

Also defensively. Zo has the defensive IQ to know when to switch and rotate which was instrumental in the 1st half.

They did that because the Lakers staff saw all the media reports of the Bucks doing the same of sticking close and forcing left to limited success. So they tried the same like sheep and had no answer when it wasn’t working.

Houston is literally an average 3pt shooting team. They are 15th in 3p% as a team, and Harden is one of their best shooters. So the game plan to let other guys shoot is a solid one.

Pippen pretty much said I would guard him the way Walton game planned.

I worked. They played to his left hand forcing him right but the refs continued to let him use the left hand to push of the defender

Pip was easily one of the best, if not the best perimeter defender of all-time, and his strategy is solid, but his strats are often contingent on a dude with 7'3 wingspan who is more athletic than the guy he is guarding, with crazy lateral quickness and ability to adapt to changing offensive schemes effortlessly...

Jordan is the GOAT, but it would have been fun to see Kobe play with a prime Scottie, so he could focus on offense (I guess Kobe did that eventually, coasting on defense )
