As You Might Expect… We’re at the stage in the season where we’re officially more black and blue than purple and gold.

Three players out may not seem like a lot, but it’s unfortunately the wrong combination of three players. With Lonzo now out with the sprained ankle, the remaining Lakers laced them up and took on the defending champs. The Warriors had won 7 straight and 9 of their last 10 heading into this game.

With DeMarcus Cousins now in the mix in the Warriors starting lineup, it looked like All Star weekend started early. Meanwhile, the Lakers rolled out Chandler, Kuzma, Hart, KCP and Ingram.

Pretty much no chance.

The trailed at half time by 10. Just six minutes into the third quarter and the lead was 29. Game over. The Lakers eventually fell 130-111. Klay Thompson had 44 points on 17-20 shooting (10-11 from three) after three quarters. He made 10 straight threes before finally missing.

Lose by 1 point, lose by 30, there’s no difference in the standings. Hopefully, reinforcements are coming soon.

Kuzma -- -- He had 11 points on 5-14 shooting in the first half. Gunning a bit and not connecting. The three ball wasn’t there once again. He was 0-5 from three after three quarters and didn’t play again. He’s been averaging 22 a game in January to pull his season average above 19 a game. Not an efficient scoring night tonight. The Stats: He scored 16 points on 7-18 shooting (0-5 from three, 2-2 from the line) to go with 2 boards, 2 assists, 3 turnovers and 1 foul in 33 minutes. He was a -32. The Action: He bricked a fading wing jumper trying to beat the shotclock. His pass was deflected trying to hit his big on the two-man game. He missed a wing three. He missed another wing three. He tipped in a missed FT. He attacked across the lane and was stripped. He turned the corner with speed and scored a layup. He couldn’t finish a layup off the Euro step. He missed a three behind a screen, rushed it. He attacked and shoveled a pass to Zubac for a dunk. He attacked and missed a tough baseline runner trying to beat the shotclock. He kicked out to Hart for a three. He faced up, attacked across the lane and hit the And-1 6-footer falling down, he made the FT. He looked off a defender, stepped through and hit the leaning 16-footer. He missed a forced jumper the right side. He banked in a one-hander on one end, then forced his man into a turnover in transition on the other. He missed a pull-up wing three. Second Half: He attacked, got caught in the air and threw it away. He scored an And-1 layup off the leak out (good concentration on the finish), he made the FT. He missed a wide open three. He got caught in the air and threw it away. He attacked and hit the runner.

Ingram -- -- He had Green guarding him and the green light to shoot more, apparently. With no Lonzo, he was very aggressive. Should have moved the ball a bit more to develop those habits better, but it wouldn’t have made much of a difference. The Lakers needed to get stops and weren’t. No stops, no transition ball, game over for this unit. I guess it was some practice time for Ingram to work on his iso game. Never hurts. The Stats: He scored 17 points on 7-16 shooting (1-1 from three, 2-3 from the line) to go with 5 boards, 3 assists, 2 turnovers and 3 fouls. He was a -25. The Action: He missed an open pull-up wing jumper. He missed an open wing jumper. Quick attack off the three line and he charged into Cousins (I like that he attacked on the touch, though). He pumped Green in the air and then hit the 16-footer. He got Curry on a switch, attacked and drew FTs, he made both. He pushed out off a defensive board, got contact and banked in the And-1 over Klay, he missed the FT. He missed a pull-up elbow jumper. He lost Klay on an up-and-under and scored the layup. He sank a three behind a score. Pocket pass to Zubac for a score. Hesitation, then he missed the tough fading jumper. He was blocked from behind in transition. He attacked and swished the short pull-up. Second Half: He couldn’t finish a drive after a hesi. He missed an up-and-under next time down (move the ball, please). Good outlet to Kuzma for the And-1 layup. He sank a step-back from the top of the key. He missed a wing jumper. He missed an open corner jumper, stepping on the three line. He attacked and sank the fade. He threw a pass away, way off trying to find Kuzma. He attacked and fed Zu for FTs.

Caldwell-Pope -- -- There was a point in the third quarter where he had just missed a couple of jumpers. He got the ball in transition for a wide open three and instead threw it to Ingram for a long jumper miss instead. Just no confidence. He really has to step up if we have any kind of chance this short handed. The Stats: He scored 4 points on 1-5 shooting (0-2 from three, 2-2 from the line) to go with 2 boards, 2 assists, 2 turnovers and 1 foul in 22 minutes. He was a -23. The Action: He missed a three trying to beat the shotclock. He cut off an offensive board and we hit him for the layup. He drew an offensive foul fighting over a screen. He missed a corner three off the swing pass. He deflected a pass to get a stop. He hustled after an offensive board, attacked from the corner and fed Zubac for the dunk. He drew FTs on a pull-up on iso, he made both. Second Half: He stepped out of bounds to start the half and erase a three setup for him. He missed two jumpers on one possession. Wide open from three and he fed Ingram for a long jumper miss instead, no confidence.

Hart -- -- Klay lit him up to start the second half. I think Luke pulled him out of mercy. The Stats: He scored 6 points on 2-2 shooting from three to go with 2 boards, 1 assist, 1 turnover and 4 fouls in 20 minutes. He was a -12. The Action: He sank a pull-up three for the Lakers first score. Offensive board and he hit KCP cutting for a score. No switch and he gave up wide open layup. He popped back inbounds to take a kickout from Kuzma and swished a three. Awful return pass to Zubac that went out of bounds. Good help to force a man into a travel. Second Half: He was called for a foul going through a screen to give up a 4-point play. He got backdoored for a layup, then gave up a three in transition.

Chandler -- -- Not much going on in this one. Zubac once again had the old guys start while he earned the bulk of the minutes. The Stats: He scored 1 point on 0-1 shooting (1-2 from the line) to go with 3 boards and 1 foul in 8 minutes. He was a -17. The Action: He drew FTs on Cousins, who thought he had a charge, he made one. Second Half: He fumbled away what looked like a sure putback dunk.

Zubac -- -- One of our more consistent players of late. He led the team in scoring in just 21 minutes and on 8 shots. His usual assortment of soft touch around the rim, finish strong and handling smaller defenders well. Cousins didn’t really want any part of Zu as the game went along. Just not there yet with his game, but you could see he couldn’t do much on iso again Zubac. The Stats: He scored 18 points on 7-8 shooting (4-4 from the line) to go with 4 boards, 1 block, 2 turnovers and 3 fouls in 21 minutes. He was a -1. The Action: He dunked off the drive and dish from Kuzma. He blocked Cousins, then stripped him to force a shotclock violation. He then hit a jumphook over him on the other end. He didn’t protect a rebound and was stripped for a score. Strong finish off the pocket pass from Ingram. He kept and offensive board alive, KCP recovered, attacked and fed him for the dunk. Second Half: He was blocked on a dunk attempt. He hit a jumphook. He drew FTs on the interior feed, he made both. Easy score off low position, just too big. He drew a double team and hit Beasley for FTs. FTs on a nice two-man sequence with Svi out of the corner, he made both. Challenge on one end and a dunk on the other as he ran the floor.

McGee -- -- He was benched for taking a three in the middle of the third quarter butt kicking. Good pull. Luke is trying to teach guys to compete and it seemed like McGee wasn’t going to. Although leaving him out there for the beating might have been better punishment if he wanted to do that. So Luke did bring him back in the fourth to give Zu a breather and finish in garbage time. It was McGee and the South Bay Lakers out there. He’s earned it. The Stats: He scored 10 points on 4-8 shooting (0-1 from three, 2-4 from the line) to go with 9 boards, 1 assist, 1 turnover and no fouls in 19 minutes. He was a -1. The Action: He regained possession and picked up Cousins second foul early on the offensive glass. He missed a short one over a smaller defender. He sank a step-back 15-footer. He backed his man down and hit a jumphook on the baseline. He was stripped on the screen-roll. He missed a sweeping hook across the lane. Second Half: He didn’t hit rim on a wide open three. He finished a layup on the lob pass. He was fouled on a lob, he made one FT. He attacked down the paint and drew FTs. Dunk off the bounce pass from Svi.

Beasley -- -- Spirited game from him. He was scoring at a decent clip, getting to his spots and attacking effectively off the three line. The Stats: He scored 15 points on 7-8 shooting (1-2 form the line) to go with 5 boards, 2 assists, 1 block, 1 turnover and 1 foul in 18 minutes. He was a -2. The Action: He attacked across the middle of the paint and hit the short one. He iso’d and missed a tough baseline turnaround. Quick attack of the closeout and he scored the layup. He faced up at the elbow out of the horns, jabbed left, attacked right and threw down. He attacked left and hit the pull-up from 10 feet out. He attacked baseline and threw it away (should have hit Svi dropping to the corner on that). Second Half: He attacked across the lane and hit the fade. He drew FTs when Zubac drew a double team and found him, he made one. He took the long outlet and dunked. He attacked off the three line to his right and scored the layup.

Stephenson -- -- Garbage Time with a Capital G. Should have brought in Bonga sooner, but I guess they want to keep Lance warm. The Stats: He scored 6 points on 1-5 shooting (0-2 from three, 4-8 from the line) to go with 3 boards, 5 assists, 1 turnover and 2 fouls in 16 minutes. He was a +2.The Action: He missed a deep three. He was tied up on a drive. Second Half: He attacked, hung and drew FTs. He drew more FTs on a drive. He missed a step-back on Curry. He iso’d and swished a pull-up 17-footer. He couldn’t finish a drive. He attacked and drew FTs. He threw an outlet away. He found McGee at the rim for a score.

Mykhailiuk -- -- Take note of Klay’s shooting, Svi. That’s what we want. The Stats: He scored 6 points on 2-4 shooting (1-2 from three) to go with 3 boards, 2 assists and 2 fouls in 19 minutes. He was a +3. The Action: He missed a three out of a timeout. Second Half: Nice dumpoff to Zubac after curling off his screen to take a pass, that set up Zu for FTs. He attacked baseline and hit AC for a short one in the paint. He swished a wing three on a kickout. He sank a baseline jumper. Bounce pass to McGee for a dunk. He missed a step-back jumper.

Caruso -- -- With Lonzo expected to miss 4-6 weeks, this is AC’s window of opportunity. We didn’t bring him up when Rondo was out. Will we send him back down when Rondo returns? He came in to start the fourth, Lakers down 30. Good energy out there. He led the team with the +11 because it was garbage time, but we might want to give him a little run in the heat of the battle. The Stats: He scored 6 points on 2-3 shooting (1-1 from three, 1-4 from the line) to go with 1 assist, 2 blocks and 1 foul in 12 minutes. He was a +11. The Action: He did not play in the first half. Second Half: He missed a pull-up behind a screen. He sank a short one in the paint when Svi found him. He drew FTs on a cut. He stripped his man to knock a ball loose, it went to another Warrior and he hustled to block him from behind. He drew FTs and missed both. He sank a wing three.

Wagner -- -- Down big, he came in after 3 minutes in the second half. Got some love from fellow Wolverine Cwebb tonight on the broadcast. He showed his usual mobility and hustle. Nice Euro step score on the break. The Stats: He scored 5 points on 2-5 shooting (0-3 from three, 1-3 from the line) to go with 3 boards, 1 steal and 1 turnover in 21 minutes. He was a -3. The Action: He did not play in the first half. Second Half: He crashed the glass for an offensive board. Quick-fire deep three and he was fouled by Durant for FTs, he made only one of the three. He missed a wing three. Nice bounce pass to a cutting AC for FTs (threaded it well from the post). He pushed out in transition, Euro stepped and finished with the left. He attacked left, spun and scored. He didn’t hit rim on a quick-fire wing three. He threw a pass away expecting Caruso to continue cutting into space. He missed a wing three.

Bonga -- -- He came in midway through the fourth quarter. The Stats: He scored 2 points on 0-1 shooting from three (2-4 from the line) to go with 1 board, 1 assist and no fouls in 7 minutes. He was a +5. The Action: He did not play in the first half. Second Half: Strong attack off the three line and he drew FTs, he missed both. He hit Svi for a three. He was fouled on the perimeter for FTs, he made both. He airballed a three at the buzzer.

Walton -- -- McGee in for Chandler after 4 minutes, down 4… The Lakers had a small lead, then gave up a 13-4 run and Luke called a timeout… He brought in Beasley for Kuzma, Stephenson for KCP out of that… Hart out with two fouls for Svi… The Lakers trailed 29-24 after the first quarter… He started a Zubac, Beasley, Kuzma, Svi, Lance unit… Timeout down 10… Ingram in for Lance out of that… Starters with Zu now… They cut the lead to 7 and forced a timeout… McGee in down 10 when Zubac picked up his third… The Lakers trailed 65-55 at the half… Timeout after Klay lit up Hart. Lakers down big quickly… Moe in for Hart out of that… McGee in for Chandler… Lakers just getting smoked down 29 after 6 minutes… The Lakers were outscored 45-25 in the third as Klay scored 23… They trailed 110-80 heading into the fourth… Garbage time…

Zubac is oozing confidence. Great to see.
I wish wed get svi running off more screens than to settle for Ingram taking 2s for 3s.

Well this game I just waited to finish. It was pointless to even play the game. For me the Laker games are just sad at this moment. I am waiting for this season to finish. For me everything this season is over. Hope for better times.

Scheduled loss.
Hope that Rondo and LeBron can come back for next game. It's time for that playoff push

Thanks DB

Zubac is becoming our most consistent player the kid is growing up right before our eyes.

We need to get Lebron and Rondo back ASAP.

Thanks DB! I'm really liking what I see from Zubac. For me, it seems like Chandler and McGee are mainly there to give him a blow and to impart some wisdom. But Big ZU is the one I would rather see on the court.

Really hope we see McGee return to form soon. Hopefully LeBron getting back on the floor will help JaVale get dialed back in on his game.

I thought they fought admirably until the middle of the third when the wheels came off. Which was more than I had hoped for all things considered (3 point guards being out and all). I sure hope our boys can right the ship once LeBron and Rondo come back.

McGee is a 15-20 MPG player that thrives when playing with other vets. Chandler is a smart vet great for certain situations

Both are invaluable because they are battling Zubac at every practice and know how to win

Maybe the Lakers will utilize Kobe’s mentality expressed at https://www.facebook.com/lewishowes/videos/889137211293424/
