Did the Lakers Punt Too Soon on Julius Randle, D'Angelo Russell and Others?

I always go on 4th down in Madden. And I win more than I lose.

No matter what? 4th and 17, on your own 32, down 3 in the third quarter against even that friend you go easy on?

Yep.
Alot of 4th and longs come from false starts or sacks on 3rd downs. And the fact that I know I can go on 4th. I normally can utilize safer plays 2 of the first 3 downs. And have 4th and shorts.
I also like that it ticks off my opponent. Sometimes they try to do the same thing. And rage quit when it doesn't work.

When I play madden I let go of my lottery picks instead of resigning them. This makes sure I keep getting lottery picks

Do you play with injuries on or off?

Of course they did.

A severe lack of patience and being extremely shortsighted will be the death of this franchise.

For me, I just simply do not approve of trading young talented players for cap space.

Not really, seeing as we didn’t have a game.

randle and his agent are not one person. You never loose an above average consistent player for nothing.
There is no one else on the lakers in the last 3-4 years who has played with as much heart and aggression as randle did. HE continues to improve too.
instead we have a freak show.
its a freak show now.

I have to see where PG13's salary cap space goes this offseason before I can agree. But you're probably right.

Nothing wrong with my eyes, cause I can see that Conley is a way better player than 'ice in my veins'

It's not science, it's calculated risk.

That said, the only guy whom I feel today poses a long term risk-reward deficit for this club is Randle. He's a high pick lost for no gain, so there's that. I also feel he's got a little bit of something we needed around here badly: a nose for the ball and the legs to go get it.

I'm settled-in with the club having ditched DAR for the same reasons I was with Nick van Exel's exit. I'd ditch good scoring guards who will limit your future from a leadership POV anytime for a chance to get a high character big man of average ability. Scoring these days is easier than ever.

The DLo trade was good for the Lakers so no there. Some may have a preference because they liked him which is valid but trading DLo actually put the Lakers in a better position afterwards... Lopez + 27pic (used to select Kuzma) - Mozgov = win for Lakers. The - Mozgov part transformed into over two thirds of cap space needed to sign LeBron as well.

As for Randle, Lakers had him at the time for 1 year 5.xx mil such that if he wanted to play in the NBA he would have had to play for the Lakers for about 5 and a half million dollars a year. It wasn’t a negotiation where Lakers would have had to consider more money or time, it was locked in such that Randle could not get out of it, we would have to cancel it. Another team would have had to offer at least three years which did not happen. Even then the Lakers would have been able to match to keep Randle. The only way for the Lakers to not have Randle at the time was to rescind his QO which was 1 year 5.xx mil essentially throwing him away like waste.

Understanding the circumstances reveals that the Lakers didn’t lose Randle like Dwight or Gasol, they dumped him as tho he had zero NBA value.

I agree with the general sentiment that Russell wasn't going to thrive here regardless. The pressure in LA is immense, and even superstars like Durant and Giannis said they couldn't handle being in LA. That says a lot about the level of toxicity and expectations here. This whole building a culture thing the FO preached about prior to the start of the 2016-2017 season went out the window the moment they landed Lebron. Everywhere Lebron goes, he brings a flurry of trade rumors with him (hence the LeGM moniker). The AD trade rumors and the resulting division in the locker room pretty much destroyed the team. I also believe this is the point where Rondo and the other vets checked out as well.

From Byron to Luke, the coaching situation was also never going to be compatible for Russell. I still remember Shaw talking smack about him during one of the TC practices last season. Rusesll's better off in a place that prioritizes patience and development over winning (aren't most young players?). Atkinson is a hell of a coach as well.

So, the worst part wasn't necessarily losing Russell. It was letting BroLo, a piece we got in the trade, go.

Letting Randle walk for nothing is inexcusable though.

Reading people writing that Russell only brings scoring is hilarious.

He’s hands down one of the top playmakers in the league already. I’m confident in saying this. And he’ll only get better in this facet. Some of the passes and reads he makes can only be done by a select view in the league. I can’t imagine what happens when the talent around him gets better.

Clearly people haven’t watched him and just want to hate on him. He’s far from perfect but he brings a lot to the table at such a young age.
