For the Magic, the trade will provide salary cap relief to a franchise that can now go further beneath the cap than any of the league's 30 teams in the summer of 2007 when a bumper crop of free agents will be on the market, giving Orlando several options in figuring out how to rebuild around 20-year-old power forward Dwight Howard.

Now the Lakers have competition in 07

they need to clear even more cap space to compete with the magic to sign a free agent like bosh

It's dead. And, was there ever a deal, or proposed traded? Probably not...

Or then maybe Isiah Thomas isn't stopping here ... Marbury could be a serious trade bait now. I think Larry Brown may have had a little bit more to do with acquiring Francis behind the scenes. Just a hunch.

Wonder what Mitch is thinking right now.

Knicks' Deal for Francis Is More Likely Than Not
Quote:
The rebuilding effort by Isiah Thomas is as unsightly as promised, probably more so, and there is no telling whether his next bold move, which appears imminent, will make matters better or worse.

Nice to see someone make a move this early, maybe there will be another deal today rather than last minute tommorrow. Ariza isn't a bad guy, but you'd think they would have held out for another young guy if Orlando threw in another vet with a long term deal. I like Orlando taking on Penny's expiring deal rather than taking on Crawford's contract though.

As for the Lakers, I'm happy that the Francis talk is out of the way, and IF Mitch was in talks about and deal involving Francis (even 3 way), this gives them plenty of time to focus on other deals. I'm not saying Mitch is the type of guy to panic, but I don't want to see them competing for a player at the last minute and give up a bit too much.

It sounds like Orlando is doing it for future financial flexibility.

And maybe getting ready for Shaq's retirement? Interesting how much his recent comment weight regarding Dwight Howard's career growth without Francis.

This deal was well-publicized for the last week. And it went through.

All is quiet on the LAL front.

Not bad talent, but for some reason you just know they are gonna suck

No doubt about it... I give that squad about 2wks before the drama really gets underway. There is no way that there is enough ball or, shots for that backcourt. This is Houston and, the "Stevie, Cuttino" thing all over again. Starbury will be passing for awhile but only to find out that the ball never comes back! Funny! I'm looking forward to watching both Brown and, Thomas having to sneak out of town in the wee hours of the morning someday soon. New Yorkers are serious about B-ball and that ladies and gentleman may have just did it...

I'd pay to be in NY practices where Larry Brown is pulling out the remainder of his hair with two PG's who don't know how to run a team or play winning basketball. They need to make a reality TV show outta this. Question is - who goes first? Larry quits? Marbury traded? Francis strangled by both Larry and Marbury - the first thing they've ever agreed on, thereby bringing the team together and leading them to the playoffs?

Seriously, is NY just trying to find all the worst contracts out there to bring onto their team?

Orlando looks pretty good for the future now with Milicic and Howard on the front line, Grant Hill, Ariza, Turkoglu at the wing positions and Jameer Nelson at the PG. Nice solid core to build around.

I can't believe the knicks got him for free!!!!!! Why in the world could we not give away Devin George and Aaron Mckie for Francis.

The Knicks also reportedly have talked to the Timberwolves about exchanging Quentin Richardson, who rarely plays, for Marko Jaric, currently pouting after losing his starting spot to Marcus Banks.

Bad move for NYK if they're keeping Marbury.

Marbury + Francis is a terrible pairing.

Larry Brown will now use Marbury as trade bait for another all star.
