Here's what's posted in ESPN Rumor Central today on the Lakers.

Quote:
Deal
Feb 22 - Laker GM Mitch Kupchak told the Los Angeles Times Tuesday that a deal is "unlikely." According to the newspaper, Kobe Bryant met with Kupchak on Monday and did not ask for additional help before the trade deadline. "Nope," Bryant said, characterizing the meeting as productive. "It was good. This and that, yadda, yadda."

Interesting that Kobe is saying he's not asking for additional help.

I think Kobe is very wary of being perceived as a part of the braintrust.

There are still some out there who think he pushed Shaq out, and has
had his hands in front-office decisions ever since.

Even if he'd told them to make some moves, I think we'd still hear from
both the front-office types and from Kobe that he'd said, "nope."

They are saying that to protect Kobe from more criticism, though I don't see the point because he gets enough of it.

Basically you're right. Kobe has gone out of his way to say he has nothing and wants nothing to do with the business transactions in the front office. Jerry Buss has held interviews where he says Ocho had nothing to with trading the Big Value Meal and even PJ came back to coach the Lakers saying that Kobe was blamed far to much for the things that transpired in L.A.

But it doesn't matter, people want to believe what they want to believe. If they hated Kobe then they'll hate Kobe now.
