From Sixty Six* magazine

Quote:
“Why did you give up on your relationship with PJ Harvey in the 90s?

Nick responds:

. . . The truth of the matter is that I didn’t give up on PJ Harvey, PJ Harvey gave up on me. There I am, sitting on the floor of my flat in Notting Hill, sun streaming through the window (maybe), feeling good, with a talented and beautiful young singer for a girlfriend, when the phone rings. I pick up the phone and it’s Polly.

“Hi,” I say

“I want to break up with you.”

“Why?!” I ask.

“It’s just over,” she says.

I was so surprised I almost dropped my syringe.

So very rock and rock, but since this thread is about music, and Polly was brought up, for those who have never seen this fantastic performance with her Fender Cobain, and even those who have seen as many times as have I, I present you with the incredible Polly Jean Harvey, and Dress

*Sixteen Magazine for old farts though there is no such thing, but the quote is real

Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins III aka Aloe Blacc with some mighty fine singing on a much underappreciated John Lennon tune, Steel and Glass.

Norman F'ing Rockwell

There is a reason Lana Del Rey is considered an "album" artist. This is a complete piece, at least musically. Each song blends into the last and on and on. She's definitely a Cali girl.

Some of you might have heard her excellent version of Subline's Doing Time, as I know that KROQ is playing it--I just raise my antenna reeealll high up here in Sac.

Never been a big fan of hers. But this is really good album. And not to take anything away from Lana, but I think this was a true collaboration with Jack Antonoff, which I believe helps.

I'm a bit embarrassed that I never fully appreciated just how damn good he was on the gi-tar while he was with us. But, hey, at least I got there.

Can she sing and play, or what?

Beth Hart doing some new stuff

In case this piques an interest, here she is with the incomparable Jeff Beck.

I'm sure it's great. Started to play it but they cut to Kid Rock and my fingers just reflexively closed the browser window.

Catchy, yet familiar. His voice, particularly in the Chorus, reminds me of Ray Davies.

As someone who came of age musically in the early/mid '70's, I always love it when decades later bands can so successfully capture the spirit of that sound.

And in that spirit my latest offering:

Blitzen Trapper: Might Find it Cheap
