Who do you want to be the new head coach of the team next season? Thibodeau? Stan Van Gundy? Mark Jackson? Kidd? Other? |

There isn’t a single coach on the market that intrigues me, I completely expect Magic to mess this up and pick the worst candidate available. |

I think with Lebron on the team it wont matter much. He is going to play how he always has. |

The coach will matter for defensive X and Os and being able to command respect and demand effort from the roster in place around Bron. That’s why I think Kidd is the favorite. |

I would love to see Kenny Smith get a shot at a coach or GM position someday.
I find him very intelligent and spot on in regards to the nba game today. _________________ "WEARESUCK" |

Over the past 30 years, the only coach that had anything but a short-lived affection from the fans was Phil Jackson, who came here already possessing six rings from the bulls.
I suspect if the Lakers replaced Luke, it will be someone who also will fall out of favor very quickly. |

I hope it’s someone like Doc Rivers or Jerry Stackhouse, but I will be content with JVG or Tyrone Lue. |

Me too but hiring a commentator to his first coaching job is risky. |

I totally agree, I'm sure they're gonna hire some terrible retread who still thinks its the 90s just like Magic. Probably Mark Jackson or Jason Kidd, guys who still think that 3 point shooting is a gimmick and the only way to play is Iso-ball

Then why even bother firing Luke?

Even though superstars will always "superstar" i.e. believe that they can pretty much do anything they want on the court and so therefore don't really need a system...
I believe a solid system is still very important. It gives the other four people on the court something to do. A smart superstar recognizes this and then can anticipate and maximize what's going on the court.
As opposed to the Lakers "no system" which means Lebron has the ball and everyone stands around like their feet are encased in concrete.
The system helps everyone.
If it was just talent then Kobe and Shaq should've just won championships from the start, but it took a coach to put together a championship winning mentality and system for it to work. |

Yeah, I know and it wont be the lakers. I just think he would be amazing at either coach or gm.
Kerr went GM commentator to coach in that order I believe. _________________ "WEARESUCK" |

this is exactly true....
people who are clamoring for a new coach should first do this exercise...
go watch a game with lebron, and just watch lebron, dont watch anything else going on. does it seem like he is doing plays designed by a coach before hand? or is he just winging his own ideas and stuff?
its the latter. so what is the coach really doing? who knows. stuff behind the scene. so if your criticism has to do with something happening on the court, blame lbj he is the general. hes not running anything that was rehaearsed or practices. its possible the other teammates are, especially if hes not on the court, but when hes on, its going to be pretty simple...
he brings the ball up. he makes the first real or important decision, which is to drive or to pass to someone. at that point, he is done with the entire possession. there are no real plays that he is involved in as a team strategy beyond that. after that first drive or pass, he just is in chaos mode and will probably do something to get a stat like a rebound or block most likely. just watch him, this is all he does. |

What superstar doesn't, though. The notion that LeBron is going to change his style after 16 years, three rings, and four MVP awards is pretty ridiculous.
If any coach is going to make him do that, they will really have to sell him a system, ala how Phil Jackson sold Michael Jordan on the triangle. And I don't think there's a coach in the league we could get who has the rep or cache to do that.
So is smart coach will build his team and system around LeBron first
And really, as much as people like to talk about the offense, are real issues are defense and lack of talent. So unless the fo does something to address those issues the coach doesnt matter much |

Definitely not Jeff Van Gundy or Mark Jackson.
JVG's slow-it-down-and-keep-the-scores-in-the-80s style is totally lame and won't work in today's NBA, let along with this Laker team.
Mark Jackson isn't a better coach than Luke, and his socially conservative Christian soldier views could divide the locker room or clash with Lebron's socially liberal views. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers |

The only coaches that could coach Lebron are Pop, Kerr, and Spo (and maybe Lue?...). There are no other coaches that can coach Lebron + withstand everything that comes with. It's going to be a re-tread for sure. |

Spolestra or Monty Williams.
Spo would be ideal. Legit great coach on par with any out there, with title credentials and the best coach James ever played for. The Heat have been quiet about his contract status and they might not be good for a long time. Plus Riley probably isn't going to stick around forever. But the last somewhat official info was that as of his extension prior to the 2016-17 season, he was signed through 2018-19.
Monty Williams is available and a personal favorite of Davis, Durant and Lebron. He would need a great staff around him. But his reputation as a leader is extremely strong and his presence would help in a lot of ways. He's also a fairly openly religious person and Magic is on record saying he wants to work with people with that in their makeup. |

Head Coach - KOBE BRYANT (not experienced but no one would ignore him, may have the basketball itch again now that he's done a lot of post-basketball goals already)
Coaching Consultant - PHIL JACKSON (too old to actual coach, but could be the greatest back pocket coach of all time)
Defensive Coach/Assistant Head Coach - FRANK VOGEL (Pacers were 9th, 1st, 1st, 7th, 3rd in DEFRTG with Vogel as head coach)
Offensive Coach - STEVE NASH (his ability to do so much with so little was remarkable)
Shooting Coach - RAY ALLEN (one of the greatest shooters of all time and he has a lot of insight on other player mechanics)
Big Man Coach - KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR (one of the best centers of all time, needs something to do besides selling his championship rings)
Point Guard Coach - JASON KIDD (one of the best PGs of all time can share his insight) |
