Makes sense to take that contract only if you can keep Mihm ( and maybe use him to buy a shooter or a defensive PG like Watson).

Where'd you get these impressions of Boozer? He's a great garbage guy on offense, so finishes off missed shots and can dunk when a teammate hits him when he's open, but he defintely doesn't have polished post moves.

On D, he's not really super athletic or tall so he's not a great 1-1 defender, though he's not terrible. He's definitely no shot blocker. I'd call Kwame a better 1-1 defender today.

That with his injuries and attitude + salary and I say no.

Actually he's a poor man defender and undersized.

its not quite that easy. if it were that easy we'd be higher than the 8th seed.

We've been handcuffed the last two offseasons due to contract length. They trade for Carlos and suddenly the MLE no longer has a limit on years and becomes more better looking to FA's.

like who?

KG for MLE!!!

Boozer will be dunking with ferocity, Swinging his arms out and tappin the backboard by the weekend and everybody will be saying, " Chris who, Hamstring what" Dude was hurt but he was milking it. Lets be real. he is a 17 and 10 career player.

All the hoopla about the Lakers needing a second scorer is right, if imprecise: They need a back-to-the-basket scorer, and Boozer is all of that. We can all forget about shot blocking though with a front line of Kwame and Carlos. Maybe this is what Phil was alluding to when he said Bynum was going to get a lot more playing time.

Not entirely true. The Lakers could still trade Lamar at some point for some cap-friendly young talent and ending contracts and still get back under the cap. They've gotten enough interest from teams to know that LO has decent value. If they land a K-Mart or Boozer at PF, they might just see how that plays out in the last X number of games before making a decision on whether to open up the MLE length in the summer. Hard to say with certainty.

The downside to this is more playing time for Luke.

Does the trade even work as reported? I think it might be off by a bit.

Uh, no he's a 13.7 PT, 9.2 Reb career player who got those averages mostly playing in the east where they don't have the same level of star PF's as in the west. And he dogged it for a year with a max contract...what happens when he's not feelin' like playing for the lakers?

You are right he isn't a player that can create for himself in the post. Agree with the defensive notes you brought up.

But he has two skills that Phil would LOVE.

1- Passing ability
2- A Jumper.

^
I think you have ignored those two.

So, that would mean the Lakers would've traded

Gary Payton
Rick Fox (automatic retire)
Devean George
2nd round pick

for

Carlos Boozer
2nd round pick (from Charlotte)

That's not bad, considering GP wasn't happy here, Fox was retiring anyway. Basically, even though GP probably didn't have anymore trade value than that, we get Boozer for Devean.

Well, if Boozer comes out and plays like he did while he was at Cleveland, that may be well worth it. If he is consistently injured like he has been while in UTAH, it may end up being horrible.

Boozer averaged over 11 rebounds per game 2 years ago.

His entire game has polish, and he is effective on the perimeter where the triangle needs him.

At this point, if you guys are complaining about this I think it's a bit of beggars being choosers.

Deaven may be having a good year by his standards, but he also did the year before his last contract. And he's up for a new contract in months.

While Mihm has nice skills, he hasn't been able to figure out how to stay on the court long enough to put them to effective use.

I do this deal if it's legit. And if we can get that oft-rumored all-star, it makes it look even better.

Isn't anyone bothered by the fact that we'd be making GS a better team? They are in our division you know.

I sure hope this doesn't happen, I'd rather have Kmarts gimpy knee over Boozer. Kmart has been to the nba finals twice.

Three wild cards for Laker success if the trade goes down:

1) Boozer is healthy;

2) Kwame's team defense improves.

3) Mitch finds a decent combo-guard who plays defense.

A lot of ifs... it won't happen this season. We'll probably sneak into the playoffs, as Boozer needs time to shake out the rust and learn the tri. But there's a distinct possibility that this team could do some damage next year. This postseason perhaps, if Milk Carton McKie can still play and Kwame improves.

Wow I hope this happens, good deal for us. Even with his contract, the "2007 plan" is unrealistic anyways.
