Not only did I believe he'd already died years ago but that we'd already had a thread about it.

LINK

Quote:
Hatten joined KTLA as an announcer in 1952.

As his career expanded, he was seen on shows including “Gomer Pyle, USMC,” “Hogan’s Heroes,” “Get Smart,” “Wings” and “Hawaii 5-0”.

He delighted children with his "Popeye and His Friends" show from 1976 to 1988, and hosted KTLA's "The Family Film Festival" from 1978 to 1992.

Hatten also served as entertainment editor at KNX 1070 News Radio from 1978 to 2007.

Hatten appeared on the big screen in features such as "Spies Like Us" and "Sweet Charity," and also performed on the Broadway stage.

I don't remember his acting career but I have a lot of good childhood memories of him hosting the Popeye cartoons and Family Film Festival on Channel 5. I remember he would often show you how to draw a cartoon character on a sketch pad during the movie break which I thought was pretty neat.

Oh, that's weird. He was in Spies Like Us and I just DVR'd that movie at 5am and was gonna re-peep it later. I'm wondering if the person/s who run the scheduling on that particular channel knew about this and thus cared about this, but if not, it's a coincidence. I can't imagine that their scheduling at 5AM is set in stone, so they might've switched it into that slot today as a tip of the hat. RIP Tom. Remember those Family Film Festival commercials for years. It was those commercials and Cal Worthington's "Go See Cal!" ads and Fight Back! with David Horrowitz ads back in Tom's heyday. Those are all burned into 80s children's hippocampi. Sad. RIP Tom

That's freaky, because I had the exact same thought.

RIP Mr. Hatton.

Oh man, RIP a big chunk of my childhood.

(DMR - thanks for pulling up that old thread.)

Here a different link (the KTLA didn't work for me): https://deadline.com/2019/03/tom-hatten-dies-at-92-1202577018/

David Horowitz died too back around on Valentine's day. Go figure!

They're all dropping.

Bye.

Didn't know. I saw the guy come onto the news set with a pellet gun to make him read a letter of his gibberish. My mom had the news on the telly whilst she was cooking dinner and my sis and her and I saw that live when one of us happened to see a stan with a gun, 87 or 88 I'm gonna say. David handled it with cool under fire.

Damn.

One of the greatest thrills of my childhood was meeting the man. I still have a picture of Popeye that he drew for me.
