Amazing that we're worse than the Knicks during that stretch.

The thing is the Mitch/Jim years were understandable given we needed to tank.

What’s maginka’s excuse after adding a player like lebron? Injuries don’t fly when we’re talking about simply having a decent record.

The players on the floor matter. If the most talented players are not on the floor then logically injuries do matter.

I am saddened by how feckless and fruitless my beloved Lakers have become.

But, and it's a big one, there is actually a scenario where things can be turned around this summer. Am I confident, based on how this new FO has operated, that Maginka can construct a championship roster? No.

However, funnier things have happened. What if KL suddenly joins this team, the YUTES take a huge leap forward.

Let me at least dream for a moment before we return to bottom of the sink again...

Winning cures all, and pretty quickly.

It's not like past Laker championship or contending teams didn't have their share of drama. In fact, rarely did a season go by where there weren't questions about coaching, front office, star player, etc. Nothing really new when looking at one specific season or offseason. The difference is in your OP, which is, extended cellar dwelling.

However, like you said, there is a scenario out of this. You get that star player, the young guys step up, Lebron actually buys in, and suddenly, Maginka's shortcomings go to the backburner and no one cares about Khaleesi (except for April-June).

There is only one way this plays out into a win since we done burn any bridge left with the young guys

LBJ+Kyrie/Klay/Kawhi+AD or LBJ+AD > Randle/Nance/DLo/JC/Zubac/BI/Kuz/T.Bryant/Hart/Moe/Svi/Bonga

FO's fault for caving to the cries of the impatient Lakers fans...Build from within and forget the big names until they are coming in their prime at a discount.

And the bottom line is the Lakers trotted out a lineup that featured a top 5 player for 50+ games. Most teams don’t even have a player of that calibur and yet the Lakers are likely going to finish with less than 35 wins.

That’s not an injury excuse when you can’t clear such a low bar.

Isn't that crazy?

The reason why it's hard for the people at top is that they are still making record profits. People forget that yes, NBA teams are part of a competition, they are at the end of a day, a business.

And business remains good for the Lakers despite being the worst team of the past 6 years, and the Knicks at #2.

And ironically both teams stand to gain a max player and possibly a top draft pick.

It's not the profits that's the challenge. There's an adage that says it is harder to stay on top than it is to get to the top.

When you're at the top, you're generally just trying to maintain your top status. You're not going to make any major moves, you're going to try to maintain the status quo.

Meanwhile, everyone else is blowing things up, knocking things over, devising strategies and methods to try and take you down. Eventually, someone figures it out.

But also, often, they just keep blowing things up and knocking things over. And that's where we are.

I'm saying, that even if they're not winning games on the court, they're still winning the game off the court.

We used to be a team that did both.

Sure. But the profits aren't a reason we've been mediocre for so long. That suggests that complacency, as a result of those profits, is a cause for our suckness.

But we haven't been complacent at all IMO. I can't think of any other NBA franchise that has undergone as much change as we have in terms of players, coaching, front offices, etc, so clearly we are blowing things up and knocking things over.

We're trying. We're just failing.

I'm not saying they're the reason. I'm saying that off court $ is a hell of a drug to numb the pain. If they started losing $ with fans being disinterested, or heck jumping ship to the Clips, we may see a more wholesale change in approach.

I don't think it's coincidence that Dr. Buss passed almost exactly six years ago.

I used to lord over the Lakers championships over my friends who were Knicks fans.

Now they can lord over this sad fact over me.

Yeah, but you have the *ultimate trump card - they're Knicks fans.

*So long as they don't get KD/Kyrie/Zion this offseason
