Me and a few friends are about to do this one.
Current TCT is 38.5 miles, we will add another approximately 8 miles at least by going all the way to Starlight Beach which was the end of the "old" version of the TCT.
This is going to be wild, my pack is about 26 pounds fully loaded but I am a big horse and am confident I can do it.
We are doing it over 4 days, 3 nights starting in Avalon and ending in Two Harbors.
Campgrounds we are doing in order: Blackjack, Two Harbors, Parsons Landing
Anyone ever done this trail? If so, any tips?
I am very excited about it. Mods, I could not find an official hiking thread, but feel free to merge if one exists. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Did it decades ago as a teen with a backpacking club. Our itinerary was a bit longer (pretty sure it was 5 days). We had Little Harbor on one of overnights, which is one of the great places on the backside. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Lived in So. Cal. my entire life and never been to Catalina...
Sounds fun and I wish you a safe trip, but I'd rather hike in the Sierras... _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.” |

I've done a few 4 HOUR long hikes about 20-30 minutes from the comfort of my own home. But wow, 4 days? Sounds awesome.
I don't have much advice to offer, but one of my favorite "wilderness/survival" quotes is.. "The more you know, the less you need."
Just make sure you take all the necessary safety precautions and a ton of photos (so we can see) Have fun, brother. _________________ "Dread it, run from it... destiny arrives all the same." |

A lot of people are telling me Little Harbor is a great spot.
It will be interesting to see the backside of the island and my understanding is it is lush and green right now.
The problem is the 46.5 miles with a huge backpack on part!
I do some hiking, but not really backpacking so this is all new carrying everything you need for several days...
We leave Friday, will update this thread if we conquer it! _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |
