I may not be in the news industry, but all immediate reaction aside -- what do you do when you get a deflection like the ones that Kurt and jeanie pulled about Kwame's option.

I just can't shake the feeling that you don't roll over and move on. You keep pushing on to ask, well if it turns out you did, how does that affect the 2007 plan, etc., etc.

Well, if you want to say it like that I could counter with

- They can trade Kobe in 2003 or 2004 and keep Shaq.

The team would have been much better. We would be the Miami Heat right now or somewhere around that .600-.650 level.

When the Lakers traded Shaq - they did so knowing that contendership went with with him and re-building was the current state.

That being said, I am also very unsettled with yet another year of no deadline moves (7 straight now?)

What exactly are you trying to counter? Kobe and his greatness allows them to dodge tough questions. That's all I said. Callers ask about how they are let down and wish they'd make improvements...and it's "Kobe scored 81, don't miss out on his brilliance!" Rebuild, by all means - But don't treat your fanbase like morons i.e. the deflections regarding Browns 3rd year.

Ok, I thought you meant that they should say they are only good because of Kobe.

That may be true - but if they actually wanted to - they could have been better for now by trading Kobe and keeping Shaq.

They traded Shaq and made Kobe the "man" because that's what they felt was the best decision for the longrun (I agree with that)

Which is why I think Jeannie points to Kobe's greatness as a measuring stick of how the Lakers make the right decisions.

I understand that Jeannie and Kurt are company men and they're being paid to give the company line. It's just really disappointing to me that they couldn't do something to at least improve the bench. Okay, blockbuster deals in the middle of season are rare and unrealistic. But is it too much to ask to add a bench player or two?? All the guys that got moved around today, we couldn't snatch one of those??

Managment's reaction to the question is UNACCEPTABLE.

It show's how incompetent and/or -- WORSE -- how misleading the
Lakers' Brass is trying to be to the fans. . .

Managment keeps telling us to wait for the big "2007 Plan"
either knowing full well the plan is up in smoke because
they guaranteed Kwame's 3rd year -- or worse -- not knowing
which shows how incompetent they are.

If they know there's no 2007 plan -- then Managment is
intentionally misleading fans -- to excuse their
incompetent personnel decisions.

Anyway, as a Laker fan, I'm pissed.

Lakers management is either incompetent or intentionally
deceptive -- I'm not sure which is worse.

At least I'm not an everyday paying Laker fan -- only
because I live 5,000 miles away. But if I were a season
ticket holder I'd have to heavily weigh that decision next
time renewal comes.

No consumer would put w/ this kind of business. Since the
Lakers have become a business first - franchise -- the fans
should hold them to the same standard.

Or worst: To internally justify being cheap.

After all these years, I keep giving Dr. Buss the benefit of the doubt. But I'm having serious concerns right now that he's not going to make any deal that puts us over the luxury tax threshold unless it's for an absolute no brainer type of player.

If the Boozer deal had legs, why not make that deal? The *only* reason I can come up with is because Buss didn't want to pay another max contract and take any chance that he'd assume luxury tax payments.

Who knows, maybe it is a conspiracy. But covering up for extending Kwame's deal so they can keep selling the fans "2007" while at the same time saying they can't add any contracts to jeopardize that.... What am I supposed to think?

Let's just say Kurt and Jeanie won't get off the hook that easily when we book them on our show! Ignorance or incompetence won't be tolerated from a proud and historic franchise.

Well, Jeanie seems to have no problems riding Kobe's success like a camel.

Fan - "Kwame sucks!"

Jeanie - "Did you see Kobe score 81? That was awesome!"

Fan - "Um, yes, but what does that have to do with Kwame?"

Jeanie - "Kobe scored 62 points in 3 quarters. That was great!"

I'd love to see Magic take majority control over the ownership.

He's already made overtures, but has been turned down.

Buss wants to keep it inthe family.

Magic's been largely successful in all his business ventures. Maybe he doesn't have a perfect business track record, but nobody that's in the business of taking risks does.

It would be a great day if the Lakers were sold to an ownership group run by Magic.

Do you get the feeling sometimes that the good people of LG and CL care more about this team than management? Geez, wouldn't you be a little curious regarding this if you were Jeannie or Kurt? Listening to them I truly believe them when they said they didn't know.

Still, I would think that it wouldn't be too hard to check this. This is not confidential matter. An inquiry by emplay to John Black should clear this up, right?

They probably did pick up the 3rd year AND KNOW that it was. However due to the groaning and moaning of the Staples Center crowd they now realize that is better kept behind Laker Closed Doors.

It's not ignorance. Both of them know that Kwame's option has been exercised. At a $9 million pop, and the death of the vaunted 2007 plan strategy, they and other members of senior management know. Given that the truth will come out, they might as well address it now.

It reminds me of how Perrier died as a brand. They dominated the market for sparkling water. One day a news story broke that the natural spring water had benzene and lots of impurities in it, and that Perrier had to filter the water before they sold it. At first they lied to the public, over and over that the water was pure when tapped from the spring. Finally, evidence came out that they were in fact lying. At that point, Perrier management held a press conference and literally laughed as if the earlier lies were a joke.

The brand never recovered, having violated trust.

How sad...they've been touting that they aren't giving up the plan unless someone is totally worth it and it ends up being Kwame of all people.

This is based on his work on the bench, he's not a good teacher like Kareem is... he doesn't work good with a big man.. and it makes it worse when we have to hear his crappy excuses on the radio everyday..

How do you know what he does and doesn't do? Are you a player? Did he coach you? We both know the answer to those questions.

Try blowing smoke up somebody else's ass.
