Saw this on last nights Access Sportsnet.

LeBron, Kuzma, Ingram, Ball only played 23 games together.

They were ranked 4th in defense, 7th in offense, and were on pace to win 53 games this season which would’ve been good for at least 3rd seed in West.

Crazy how the injury bug has hit us hard this season.

And we'll likely say this next year once they all miss a similar amount of games again.

Everyone blames injuries but injuries are apart of the game. Fact of the matter is our roster was not put together to the strengths of our best player, they made questionable trades, and we (bleep) the bed on games we should've won that led to our downfall.

The amount and severity of the injuries we've had this season are not a normal part of the game.

Losing Rondo in November for a month, or Ingram for 2 weeks in December, or even McGee for a few games when he had pneumonia, sure. But not to the point when so many key guys got hurt at least once and missed significant time.

You can’t win games in suits on the bench.

The crucial point was when Lebron was injured and we lost 4 unforgiven games
agains New York, Cavs and at Sacramento, Houston. We could have been in something like 32-24 or better and we were 28-28.Those losses changed everything and they were only on Luke. That why the coaching thing is
first of all. If its Luke again next year, it doesnt matter even if we sign Durant.

Yet being 28-28 they continued to lay eggs.

Despite losing to sac, hou, cle, and nyk, the lakers still had an oppotunity even at that point with lebron, a well playing ingram and kuzma. However, they lost to atl, mem, no w/o AD and pho in the next stretch while killing any remaining momemntum.

Good coaching, roster construction and no trade/chemistry problems are the difference between winning and losing those "easy" games even with injuries.

Had the lakers taken care of business and won those 8 games mentioned above, we'd be talking the difference between fighting till the end vs losing the fight before it began playoff wise.

They were maybe on pace to win 53 games if they had the same lotto-team heavy sched they had for the first half of the season.

And this hypothetical also asks "what if the all the main guys didn't miss any games?" How many teams do this?

The 4th seed was in a precarious position. The Warriors win covered up a very poor 1-3 road trip that was suppose to be a gimme.

The issues were always there. The injuries just helped expose the fundamentally flawed roster construction in surrounding the core.

Injuries are part of the game but it is not common for 2 of your critical decision makers and leaders to each go down 5 1/2 weeks along with Lonzo all around the same time frame

Now you know Lg doesnt want to admit to this LL. i dont even know why you brought it back up. you might as well resurrect my thread saying pretty much the same thing. and watch most of the posters do all sorts of yoga poses to say otherwise.

Losing is apart of the game as well. do you want me to insert the word losing where you put injuries? i could. and it would make the same sense you just made.

you do realize the warriors have lost games right? you do realize the rockets have lost games right? you do realize Giannis has lost games right?

Truth.

And the FO selection of FA's really not was the best to contend, aside
from giving up too soon on some of the youth.

The problem is, every time you extrapolate using a smaller sample, it never maintains over a longer period.

It's like if a player shoots 4 of 5 from 3pt range in a game, he isn't going to do that across a season.

Or if you win 9 of 10 on a streak, it isn't going to continue.

I thought this team had a flawed roster with little margin for error even before the injuries. Fact of the matter is that injuries happen and this clearly wasn't a team with a large margin for error. There were signs of this disaster early when we started 2-5 and turned things around after getting Chandler. If your team is dependent on McGee who is a career 10 mpg guy, Chandler at 41 (not to mention the flawed MUD players), it's no surprise when one or two guys being out of the lineup sends your season into a tailspin. What's funny is that people cling to the 4-6 weeks we played good basketball as the true indicator of and ignore the early portion of the season AND when LeBron and most of the lineup (sans Ball) was back in February with the playoffs still within reach and we were still getting run out of the gym. There's little evidence to believe that the team in December was much more than an outlier.

Yep. I say this all the time. People talk as if we were firmly entrenched as a 4 seed when it took a hot streak to turn around a season that was looking slightly disastrous in mid-November. We were a fourth seed that was just two games up on 9th place with expected top playoff contenders like Houston and Utah getting off to slow starts.
