Magic would love this post. He gets credit for all of the good, and everyone else gets blame for all of the bad. As for me, I thought he sucked as much as a general manager as he did as a coach which is pretty bad. He's lazy. He throws people under the bus. I loved him as a player, but don't respect him much as a basketball person since his retired

Thank you. Finally a grown man post. None of this foolish celebration for a legend who did so much good stepping away. The disrespect on here was disgusting

Eh, ran away cause its too hard couldn't even inform his "friend/boss" Jeannie. I have no respect for this loudmouth idiot, the details of him not even being really involved for long periods of time now makes sense. He wasted my time as a fan and set back this franchise for more years cause the dude was too stupid to keep his mouth shut.

I disagreed with the DLo trade, but Magic was effective at cleaning up the messes Jim and Mitch made in 2016. Magic signed Lebron. On the whole his short tenure was a net positive, if unnecessarily chaotic.

Based on everything that's transpired since Lebron signed, though, I thought concern about Magic's ability to build a contending team was warranted. It's good that he's stepping away even if Jeanie could screw it up worse.

Good riddance, Magic was horrible and it was evident that he had no idea what he was doing. Addition by subtraction!

There is a lot of slamming on Magic around here at LG. But I love him and am happy that he recognized that he was the wrong guy for the VP position. His love for the Lakers and Jeannie made this move an obvious one. Now hopefully we have learned that "keeping it in-house" is a terrible idea. Time to open up the wallet and buy yourself the best, even doubling another person's salary to bring them here.

He left the front office as a wreck, which is not good, but I do think he left the team in good position going into the offseason. Good young players with upside, a lottery pick, huge cap space, and a star who still puts up MVP numbers. This team can easily be really good next year.

Cupboards aren't empty while we still have BI and Zo, who imo can reach the level that DLo and Randle have.

If no one comes here, he's right. It was a risky move done by Magic.

Personally, I would have cleared the cupboard myself for KL and or AD.

To each his own.

Neither were coming. And due to cutting young players and not paying them, a trade for either would mean trading 4-5 players for 1. That isn’t realistic. At least Mitch was experienced enough to know that having salary ballast was important, we got Pau and two titles as a result.

Mitch has more minuses than pluses.
+ got Pau
- gave big contracts to Pau, Deng, and Moz, making them un-tradeable
- unable to trade Pau several times
- expected a buyout
- unable to re-sign D12
- couldn't come up with a better offer than the Clippers for CP3
- succumbed to Nash's request and traded away 4 #1 picks
.

As someone who grew up idolizing Magic, he has a lifetime pass to do whatever the hell he wants in my opinion. I love that guy, and I was looking forward to seeing what he had in store for this summer.

I haven't seen him put on that classic, beaming Magic smile in a long time. It's clear he hasn't been happy in this role. The man just loves the Lakers and the NBA as a whole. And he loves to express that love for the game openly and freely. He loves the cameras and the cameras love him. Being in a role where he suddenly has to be reserved and diplomatic was a rough transition.

It's one thing to read hate for Magic coming from Celtics fans or outside of the Lakers sphere, but to read it coming from Lakers fans was too much for me. I was visiting this site less and less this season. I haven't posted for a couple weeks and the hate is still here even after he walks away. I told all of you if he's really as bad as you say, then he gave his word he'd step away, so just give him this short window of time.

I respect Magic's decision to step away and go back to the role that is more natural to him as basketball ambassador. Hopefully we can see the return of that classic smile. I'm just saddened and disappointed by the way Laker fans treated him from the start.

I dont think anyone likes the way he went out

but

my real question is how much of the good that has happened the last 2 years been Magic? Because

- We do in fact have Lebron
- We do infact have a young core of players
- We do in fact have our salary cap cleaned up and/if we can get another prime player to take our money to come play with Lebron

How much of that was Magic Johnson

Also.....even if it WAS a lot with Magic all is not lost....just be smart on the next hire/hires to continue on the progression of the team

Imagine having all 4 reach that level. We might actually be good.

Good, but not a title contender. Unfortunately, there's not an MVP level talent in that bunch.

unprofessional way to go out. Lakers may have been better off without Magic in the first place.

As someone who hated to decision to hire him the first place, I dont think Magic was nearly as bad people made him out to be. And he had the clout to get Jeannie on board to do things that others likely wont, like persuade her fire her boy toy Luke.

I was joking because RI Laker spent the last two years treating Magic like Jesus reincarnated.

In my post above I called his tenure unnecessarily tumultuous but a net positive overall. His efforts to build around Lebron over the past nine months have been concerning, though, and may have pointed to an impending poor decision this summer if he didn't step down.

The only thing I’m thanking for is him leaving sooner rather than later (which I believe he did for selfish reasons to preserve his legacy)

Good riddance! Won’t be reading your captain obvious tweets either lol
