We could have just benched Lou if we really wanted to tank and I highly doubt the Lakers were in any position to win many games even if Lou was trying his best. Stop making up excuses to justify for trading him away. It was a poor judge of talent by Magic. Period. Should we look at the rest of his signings and tradings too? Incompetent people need to go. On paper, they look like the team. They were dominant this year. But I don't trust their talent level. Middleton is their 2nd best player? Bledsoe? That just feels weak for a title team. |
First off, they have Giannis. I don't care what anyone says he is the best player in the NBA. That already is a HUGE advantage. What he does to collapse the defense on the drive is on another level. This means if you have shooters you have a huge advantage.
They have shooters. A lot of them. Bledsoe can shoot. Middleton can shoot. Lopez can shoot. Mirotic can shoot. Brogdon can shoot. You get the point. They all can shoot when he collapses the defense.
They play great defense. Really great defense. They have a top 3 defender in the league in Giannis. Bledsoe is a great defensive guard. A healthy Brogdon is a great defensive guard. Lopez has been great in the paint. Middleton can also hold his own on defense.
Not only that, while they don't have a second superstar, they have a lot of guys that can create their own shot. Pretty much everyone can create their own shot.
So sure, they don't have the fanciest team on paper. However, they have a damn good team. They built a team without looking for flash names. Something the Lakers should learn. Bucks are built PERFECTLY for the modern NBA, with a great coach, and the best player in the NBA (at worst top 3). I see them advancing to the finals quite easily. |

There's no sugarcoating that trade, it was done to make the team worse. To get a better draft pick and have room for at least 2 max players. |

Does Lou re-sign with us last summer if we had benched him after the All-Star Break in 2017? I think not.
However, let's say we didn't tank and simply lost the 2017 & 2019 picks...with the same draft position in 2018, we have a shot at Shai Gilgeous Alexander, and the current Clippers backcourt is ours (well, 2/3rds of it anyway). We'd have more cap room with these two and without Lonzo/Hart, as well.
There's no way to have predicted all this, but this is why you don't trade away your picks for a 38 year old player who takes your franchise cornerstone off the ball anyway. And to think we refused to include any more picks in a potential reworking of the vetoed CP3 deal. It all comes back to the Nash trade and the MozDeng signings. And Lamar who made the Nash trade possible with his unprofessionalism. |

the Lakers Lou trade was a good idea. Only thing I hate is that apparently we could have got more for him.
we were rebuilding, needed to tank for better draft odds, and assumed we couldnt afford Lou anyways while trying to go a on 2 max FA mission. _________________ (bleep) Kawhi |

If I'm Lou, I'm kicking myself for signing such a paltry deal. He could easily have gotten double his deal. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

I thought that trading Lou was to force Walton into playing DLO more. I was wrong. |

The same people lamenting trading Lou are the ones who are whining that Lou was holding DLO back. |

Aww so cute |
The bromance is still strong. I guess he's not regretting his decision. Let's see what happens after 4 more years of first round playoff exit. If he's ok with being known as never winning a championship or never even making it to the finals, then so be it. Rot in OKC.
Maybe next year the Lakers will replace OKC in playoff standing. That would be so sweet. _________________ Playoffs is good enough. - Jeanie Buss 2024 |

He’s not signed for 4 more years, he likely leaves before then. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Denver isn’t forreal. But I can’t really talk about them.. their young players are much more promising than ours. |

Blame Houston for being the 4th seed.
But the brackets are interesting IMO since we’ll get the GSW/HOU matchup early and a new team will get to participate in the WCF. |
