I'm assuming Gooden would have to be involved, and possibly another Cav player and draft pick. |

I will blame the writers for not doing their HW...not even a Damon Jones + Drew Gooden works under the cap for Lamar Odom...that is fact |

That is hardly a serious return for the Lakers and while Mitch may be under constant fire for his getting things done that would definitely draw unecessary criticism... That would indeed be stupid... _________________ "According to ESPN.com's conference projections, the Lakers will finish 12th in the West, which prompted Bryant to tweet earlier this offseason, "12th I see.." |

Can't believe a story with facts like this. The Lakers are 27-26. |

Yeah, but if it were Drew Gooden and Jones - they'd mention Gooden
if they were gonna just mention one player as a "primary."
Even a local writer like that knows better.
The implication is Jones for Odom, as the primaries.
And yes, that is laughable as hell.
I have no doubt we've shopped LO - but for Damon Jones? |

Maybe he's psychic.
Let's hope his ability doesn't extend to trades though. |

Not far off actually, I used to do PR and alot of it was sports-related.
They mention primaries in trade speculation.
Honestly ya don't need to have a background to know that.
Anyone who's read sports for a few years would tell you the same. |

Damon Jones and Ilgauskas for Odom and Pieces (Wafer)
or
Damon Jones, Drew Gooden, Donyell Marshall and 1st Rd Pick for Odom and Wafer.
Lakers get deeper, this is a deal i would like to see if we have another deal in place. We would have 2 first round picks to work with. Some nice quality depth.
Cavs would be a monster when Hughes got back though.
Big Z
Lamar Odom
Lebron James
Larry Hughes
Lil Bow Wow
= Eastern Conference Finals. |

I'm not arguing that you need to put primaries in trade stories, but it seems like we always criticize the writers when all they're doing is reporting what the sources tell them (although granted, they sometimes make stuff up).
But I think these guys are completely in the right by not mentioning Gooden if his name was NOT mentioned. Speculation is our job. |

Will have to agree.
The only way an Odom/Gooden deal gets done is if the Lakers agree to replace LO's bloated contract with that of a Cavs player...namely Eric Snow. And since the Lakers already have semi-retired PG taking up capspace, it's hard to see them making a move for Snow.
Additionally, Gooden becomes an RFA at the end of the season. I believe him to be a solid #2 scoring option in the post. He'll likely get an offer that the neither the Lakers or Cavs are willing to match.
Too bad, though. This trade would have definitely helped both teams. |

I hear ya GH.
My point is, reporters (and I've dealt with my share back in the day) are
going to ask and 99% of the time be told what the primary players are
to be involved.
If a trade was being worked on, and the reporter has a source, the
"Lamar" part and the other primary (say, "Gooden)" part are going to
be settled on in principal - and the two teams are going to be tinkering
with the throw-in type players (like Jones).
Don't get me wrong, there's still that very slim 1% chance or whatever
it might be where the reporter could in fact have been told Damon Jones
was a throw-in, and the Lakers had no clue who the primary was
But that's just not likely.
I'll put it this way, it's far, FAR more likely that the story is B.S. or the
journalist is using an irresponsible source for the sake a story than it
is that he was in fact told only of a throw-in and not of the primary. |

I see your point now -- and it makes complete sense. That said I tend to believe Amico, simply because he reported that the Lakers were close to getting a deal for Artest back in December for Devean George "and others."
I emailed him to call him a "lair" (not to mention every other name in the book), but it turns out he was right. So I guess that's why I'm defending him so furiously now -- not that he or any other ink-stained wretch actually deserves it. |

The problem, though, is that Gooden is a RFA at the end of the season. Any team looking to acquire him will have to really want him and be willing to match offers he's likely to field this off-season.
The Cavs have long since decided that they won't do it and I'm unsure if the Lakers would either.
ETA: This report/rumor has all the markings of the Cavs using the Laker name as leverage to get more out of a seperate deal. |

Odom is so much better than Gooden it's not even funny.
I can't believe anyone would want Gooden over Lamar.
Well actually I can. People here would rate Troy Murphy over him. |

That is prepostorous. Odom for Jones. Jones one of the worst players in the league. Has Odom lost that much value? And why would we want Jones? He hates LA, and already refused a trade here a few years ago. Where the hell do these people get this stuff? That is insane.

Please change the thread title. It's misleading.
At the very least, put a '?' at the end of it. |
