L.A. Address Didn't Pan Out For Artest
Ron Artest thought it was going to be his second home, this apartment with the downtown Hollywood address. He signed a nine-month lease, figuring the next deal to be done was the one that brought him from the Indiana Pacers to the Los Angeles Lakers. ... "It got really, really close; really, really close," said Artest, who made his trade request in Indiana on Dec. 12 and visited the West Coast weeks later. "I was going to their games, got my apartment out there. My agent told me I was going there, so I figured, if I'm going there, I might as well get ready." -- Sacramento Bee _________________ "I wish I could draw a picture of the look on their faces..... Meanwhile, Sac just might come and take the last playoff spot away from the Lakers...

I would like to have had him in purple and gold at the right price. That's a bummer. |

we were very close to artest... we are very close to t-mac... maybe we were and still are very close to garnett... it's the story of this season... we were very close to win in sacramento, very close to win with memphis... the difference is that winners win when they are very close to a goal, while losers remain with nothing in their hands... |

Quote: | L.A. address didn't pan out for Artest
By Sam Amick -- Bee Staff Writer
Published 2:15 am PST Thursday, February 23, 2006
Ron Artest thought it was going to be his second home, this apartment with the downtown Hollywood address.
He signed a nine-month lease, figuring the next deal to be done was the one that brought him from the Indiana Pacers to the Los Angeles Lakers.
But the place is nothing more than a vacation spot now, with bare walls and no furniture because the Lakers deal he thought was certain was anything but. And while Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh and Lakers coach Phil Jackson have said the proposed Artest-for-Lamar Odom swap was never close to transpiring, Artest was told otherwise.
"It got really, really close; really, really close," said Artest, who made his trade request in Indiana on Dec. 12 and visited the West Coast weeks later. "I was going to their games, got my apartment out there. My agent told me I was going there, so I figured, if I'm going there, I might as well get ready."
Reportedly, the deal that would have sent the Clippers' Corey Maggette to Indiana for Artest came closer than that of Los Angeles' crosstown counterpart.
Still, there was Artest on Jan. 12, watching the Lakers host Cleveland and getting comfortable inside Staples Center at one of two Lakers games he attended. It was a fine idea no matter which Los Angeles team he played for, since they share the facility.
He was traded to the Kings on Jan. 25.
Artest was flattered by the courtship, especially when Kobe Bryant was quoted as saying he would like to play with him.
"That was awesome," Artest said. "Kobe said that. LeBron (James) said it. ... That's a pretty cool thing. But those guys have played against me. They know I can play."
As does Artest, who has yet to play himself into prime shape and issued a warning of sorts for when that time comes.
"Once I get back into shape, there's going to be a lot of problems in this league," he said. |

It sucks to hear that he was close to coming aboard.
On the other hand, like others I wasn't entirely sold on giving up LO for him.
The last thing I heard was that we'd originally been against giving them
LO, then had offered him later in the sweepstakes and they wanted more.
A couple sources said they wanted Bynum and LO.
Anyone on here mad we didn't get LO + Bynum for Artest?
Well? |

Whoever veto'd this trade is a f-in idiot. The guy has passion for the game, and wants to win. Straight up baller. And I wont be surprised if sac-town takes our place in the playoffs. The Lakers organization deserves to not make the playoffs. |

Typical.
Assume those rumors are correct.
Mitch offered LO, was asked for Bynum + LO... and therefore decided
not to acquire Artest because the cost was too high.
Isn't that the right move?
Yet everyone will chastise the hell out of him as if they know some
favorable deal was presented to us and we just happened to have the
most attractive package available out of 10+ teams chasing Artest.
Not a Mitch lover here, but alot of you guys just assume too much. |

Uhhhhhh......He got traded to Sacramento. He's not coming to LA. Indiana has been surging with the addition of Peja. Sacramento has remained the same mediorcre club. Indiana ended up with PreDrag Queen Stoyinkibitch. Odom is much better than him alone, so why would they also want a future superstar in Bynum?
Anyone wonder why we always seem to get so close to making deals, than nothing happens. Apparently Mitch cannot close a deal unless he is getting raped. I really don't see how this team is going to improve with him trying persuade other GM's to make trades. It takes a salesman, not a nice guy.
Artest is a top ten player easily. Best defender in the league. Can score 20+ points per game, and is consistent. He is also a good ball-handler and could've eventually been our facillatator. Oh, well just another deal down the drain for Mitch. |

How can you say that sac is the same mediocre club? They are 2 games behind us and we will really see tonight who is better. Lets hope everybody shows up and we have a good game. But knowing this teams track record, I have faith that all the role-players will once again abandon kobe, and become the stiffs they usually are. I expect a 9 point game from Lamar |

They valued Peja above LO.
At least from what I heard, we offered LO towards the end just before
they took Peja instead.
Peja's contract runs shorter for one thing, that may be a part of it. |

Since adding Artest, Sacramento has only been able to beat ONE team with a winning record. Since adding Peja, Indiana has beaten FOUR teams with winning records. They are 6 & 2 with Peja and that's without Oneal. Thus far Indiana has become the better club with Peja and without the Artest headache. _________________ I'm On point, On task, On message, and Off drugs. Hmm. Baron Davis had his bags packed, Artest bought an apartment here, Boozer and Bender were both done deals that fell through at the last minute.
Anyone see a pattern here? Whether or not the trades would have been good or not is not the issue. It's crystal clear that Mitch doesn't have the ability to close deals. |

Just because this loose cannon says it was close, doesn't mean anything... Seriously, RonRon will say just about anything, he's completely whacked!
Quote: | "Being in Sacramento is one of the highlights of my career."
— Artest |
Quote: | Waiting for Artest to acknowledge he did anything wrong is another matter. He recently told ESPN it was "just politics … just people trying to bring me down" and "can be race."
"I've never said I'm trying to revamp my image or change for everybody," Artest said. "I don't want no Coca-Cola commercial, you know what I'm saying?
"I'm 'hood. That's how I grew up. I grew up around thugs and gangsters. I didn't grow up around Donald Trump. I'm not Donald Trump's nephew." |

Even though this nut-bag doesn't deserve it, he gets to wear purple & gold, thank God it's the "cow town" variety. |

The teams Indiana has beaten are MUCH more impressive. Sac has only been beating losing teams. _________________ I'm On point, On task, On message, and Off drugs. That is EXACTLY the issue. Why make a bad trade just to 'get something done'? |

I would not trade either Bynum or Odom for Artest straight accross one for one. It is just not worth the risk, imo.
To prove my point Artest was traded for Peja.
Would we trade Odom for Peja?
Would we trade Bynum for Peja?
Of course not....
Then logical deduction tells us that we don't trade Odom or Bynum for Artest.
Bottom line Artest is only worth Peja and not worth players like Odom or Bynum. If we had to give up more than a player with the talent of Peja then I say WHY should we. _________________ Rule = win titles
