I'm surprised he thinks AD will become a spacer when the defense switches. I'm interested to see how this plays out.

Regarding Bron and AD, I just love the fact that Vogel said, "You can have one of them in at all times, 48 minute." Luke Walton would have them sit on the pine together for stretches.

Lol yeah you never know with Walton's wacky rotations. I can see Kuz filling in for either Bron or AD when one of them is catching a breather.

Lakers to hire Quinton Crawford as assistant coach on Frank Vogel's staff, per source. Crawford worked as a head video coordinator/player development with Vogel in Orlando. Crawford spent last season in same role with Charlotte. He began career as assistant VC in Sacramento.

Anyone know anything about Quinton Crawford? What’s his specialty? Is he an offensive guy and will he be a bench coach?

Certainly looks like it, unfortunately. Unless Hollins is here for player development (lol), he, Kidd, and Handy are the three who will be on the bench.

Mermuys was weak because he was not an offensive expert. This time around, the FO handpicks the staff of the new coach, yet it appears that this coaching staff they picked will still have another non expert filling the role. Amazing.

Pathetic, still no offense guru, guess the first to 80 wins in our games this year.

In this one off-season, the FO has essentially revamped the entire coaching staff and hired:

- Vogel (head coach)
- Kidd (assistant coach)
- Hollins (assistant coach)
- Handy (player development, handling)
- Penberthy (shooting)
- Crawford (video)

... and yet you still think the situation is pathetic? Wow, you've got high standards! I've got two questions btw...

1) What is your baseline for judging... i.e., if this group is "pathetic", which group of coaches on other teams qualifies as being bad, normal, good, great?
2) Do you not think that Vogel, Kidd, Hollins and LeBron would be able to come up with the offensive schemes they want to run?

Throw in that letting the #2 all time assist guy have a simplified role may help him get the best out of that role. He has never been an assistant and James trusts him. Then you have Rondo running the 2nd unit.

Bringing in an offensive guy sounds ideal, but this could be a unique situation where there are enough voices they just need the assistants to have Vogel's back and Vogel needs to let James run the show.

Maybe I’m naive but I have a feeling the offense will be fine this season.

James is the driving force. He will dictate style and what they run. The other players will fall into place and fill in the roles around him. The coaches will contribute and organize but James will be in charge of the offense.

It will be interesting to see how well the team adapts when James is off the court for rest or missed games. That has always been a weakness of James led teams.

I compare it to when Peyton Manning joined the Broncos several years ago. He was in charge of the offense and the HC ran the defense. Sure there were OCs involved but there was no mystery who was in control and who the players answered to.

My biggest concern is that we over complicate things. It is really simple when you have talent like the Lakers, at least on offense, that first year. Teams do not know us that well, or our strengths and weaknesses. All this coaching staff needs to do is focus on defense, keep the star talents well rested (Cousins, AD, LBJ) and then focus on more complicated deeper sets on offense after the all-star break, as the season evolves. Early on, you can rely a lot on good spacing and simple 1-4 iso offense or screen/roll . It should not be anything too complicated early on, IMO. Focus on D.

The coaching staff in terms of experience is much better than the previous staff. Vogel, Kidd, and Hollins have all been head coaches before.
It seems like Kidd could handle the offense and Vogel the defense with help from Hollins. And finally when have the shooters get a shooting coach.
This is definitely at least on paper a first rate coaching staff.
