PostPosted: Sun Jun 30, 2019 6:27 am    Post subject: 2019 Lakers Free Agency Prediction Thread

I realize there is a Free Agency thread, but the movement there is so fast, I wanted to create a central place on all of the predictions you have on who we're going to sign and for how much using our cap space, Room Exception, and Vet Min contracts.

NOTE: This is for predictions, not what you want, but rather, what you think will happen. And we'll assume an even $32M in cap space.

Here are mine (updated @ 8:30AM PST)

Cap Space Free Agent Signing(s) - Must add up to $32M
D'Angelo Russell - $25.6M
Reggie Bullock - $4.8M
Alex Caruso - $1.6M

Room Exception Free Agent Signing
Javale McGee - $4.5M (or Frank Kaminsky if Javale leaves)

Vet Min Free Agent Signings
Wesley Matthews
Wayne Ellington
Rajon Rondo
Jeff Green
Jared Dudley
Tyson Chandler
Salah Mejri

8:30AM PST Update
- Switched Bullock into the cap space list, Javale into room exception (thanks fansincemagic!)
- Added Jeff Green to vet min list
- Added Tyson Chandler to vet min list

Ring-finger,

I think that is a solid prediction. The only thing that can stop this from happening is if someone over-pays for D. Russell. And even though I am not big on Russell, to get him with Beverly would be a nice combo that you can play in various lineups.

Does anyone know how much is the mid-level exception worth this year? Personally I was not blown away by Bullock last year. I would like to get a better quality player than that.

____

I do not have a prediction right now. I think Ring is probably on the money.

The one I had posted originally was just an example but I updated it with the one I just posted to reflect my true prediction. It's fun making the math work! Haha.

This could very well be the scenario but you really need to swap JaVale McGee and Reggie Bullock. With Reggie's cap hold being around that number you can give him a bigger contract on a shorter deal and utilize him as a trade chip if need be. I could really see the FO split over KCP or Bullock as underachieving SGs but cap manipulation as the last signing.

Some of the veteran minimum ideas maybe wishful thinking specifically Wesley Matthews and Ellington. Rondo might buy into getting a bigger deal next year.

Good call. Forgot RE is capped at 2 yrs.

Dudley will be 34 in a week.

Wes Matthews was overpaid recently so I assume he will take a cut for a chance to win as a 33 yr old this season.

@ Kobe is King - I like your idea. Smart. If we go after DLO, I would offer him around 21 million for 3 years and give him a bit extra on the last year. (back load it)

Also King - Lakers should consider Cousins. He has history with AD and he still wants to win a ring. Mid level exception might be in the works.

3 yrs at 23.7 and 4th year at 28.9. (lakers need to get creative)
8.3 Million to use on Ross or Beverley and backload the final year to offer more.

By time Lebron 3 years are up, these guys will be on their final leg. You can also trade them as expiring contracts or what not.

I've come to terms with being happy with a Dlo scenario, but I think it's more than being hopeful in wanting this scenario but believing it. If Leonard wants to win, he will have to come to the Lakers not just LA. If he does a short term deal in Toronto to hit the market on a bigger scale this opportunity will be gone.

So I agree with Leonard for max and Curry as the exception, with Caruso at the minimum and Rondo by a nose that he takes the min. Put me down for:

Vet min:

G Rajon Rondo
G Alex Caruso
G Iman Shumpert
F Luc Mbah a Moute
F Carmelo Anthony
C Nerlens Noel
C Mike Muscala

Theyll also get one more big by the end of FA that didn't find the right deal or midseason buyout to form a tandem to let AD split his minutes at 4 and 5.

I think we get Kawhi and DeAndre Jordan, then some ring chaser / under the radar min guys.

I can see both Lance and Rondo staying on min deals, plus maybe Melo and maybe Korver and JR too.

Kaminsky is way too young to take a vet min. I mean he could, but why? He played 17 MPG, and he'll look to get paid AND get more minutes than that.

Just curious, do you know how the QO to Caruso works? Wouldn't the Lakers have to rescind that in order to re-sign him as a minimum contract? (Caruso is not elgible for vet min).

I'd rather have Jordan instead of McGee.

I know many here have said he's done... but we need a heavier body who won't get bullied as easily as McGee.

I liked what McGee did this season, and obviously he'd be better in transition but he just can't slow big centers.

I think even DeMarcus might be good assuming he actually progresses beyond what he showed this year.

If Cousins doesn't improve then one of the others would be better.
