Pacers Guard Tyreke Evans Dismissed From NBA for Violating League's Anti-Drug Program

By EMILY CARON May 17, 2019
Pacers free agent Tyreke Evans has been “dismissed and disqualified” from the NBA for violating the anti-drug program, the league announced Friday. Evans will be eligible to apply for reinstatement in two years.

"The Indiana Pacers were informed Friday by the NBA that Tyreke Evans has been dismissed from the league for a violation of the league's anti-drug policy," the Pacers said in a statement. "We take these matters seriously and will reach out to Tyreke to offer our support."

The NBA, teams and the Players Association are prohibited from publicly disclosing any more information on Evans' usage or suspension.

Is Evans considered a bust as the #4 pick in the 2009 draft? Pretty strange that out of a draft class with Harden, Curry, Blake Griffin, DeRozan, Jrue Holiday, and Jeff Teague, it was Evans who was selected as Rookie of the Year...

I remember thinking at the time that it was dumb for OKC to have drafted Harden at #3 instead of Evans...

Not that strange. BG didn't play, Harden, DeRozan, Holiday, and Teague were nothing special at first and barely played, and people have been sleeping on Steph since Davidson. This is without mentioning that Evans outperformed him and became only the 4th player ever to average 20/5/5 as a rookie. (Other three: Oscar Robertson, Michael Jordan, LeBron James. Pretty good company.) He hasn't performed to that level since but he had an impressive rookie campaign nonetheless.

Surprised because it has to be something bad to get banned from the NBA

Not surprised because he had a lot of unexplained absences that were reduced to "Personal problems" by the Pacers.

Yet another stupid move by them.

Guessing some sort of painkiller. He's had injuries that have damaged his career, and probably wanted so badly to keep playing without the hurt he got hooked on some painkiller. Sucks whatever it may be, and hopefully he can get clean.

Thats 2 NBA draft classes that are coming in while he's sitting out. Plus with his past I really don't see much NBA teams taking a flyer on him. Not to mention the only way to improve is to play against NBA competition, and those are essentially 2 lost seasons.

The world is not enough. Evans is old enough to know better. He got caught up.
