In my opinion.

Look, the Warriors without KD play totally unselfish basketball without KD, and play with better rhythm.

There is more movement and far less forced touches and isolation.

This takes advantage of their players' strengths much better.

I honestly don't understand how this is so quickly dismissed as "crazy" in the media. It's actually a pretty fascinating discussion, imo.

Playoffs are about matchups. I saw a couple of pundits calling this one as a sweep even after Durant got hurt. The Warriors don't need Durant to beat Portland. In fact, they may match up better against the Blazers without Durant. But against the Bucks, they'll need Durant.

I agree, they certainly might need Durant's size and defensive prowess to win.

But I don't know that defensive flexibility makes you necessarily better. Because while they may be gaining something on defense, offensively they will once again force touches, play less unselfishly, a bit more tentative.....all of which impacts both ends of the court.

Offensively the team plays far better without Durant but they're always susceptible to droughts. That's where KD is great for them. Defensively they need another big without KD. Can't play Draymond and Looney all game. And Iggy is too old to be playing big minutes.I do enjoy watching them play far more without KD. Their offense is fun again.

Iggy is the same age as Lebron will be next season

I think people still think Lebron is like in his 20s...

They play more beautiful basketball without KD, but no mistake about it they are much better with KD. The Bucks will beat Golden State if KD is not back.

This argument is a fallacy that people like to back up with the stat of games won without KD with Steph on the floor. If the Warriors were better without KD, teams wouldn't be scrambling to form superteams this summer and (bleep) so much about KD being on the Warriors.

The Bucks would the Warriors without KD, as others have mentioned. With KD, the Bucks have almost no chance of winning. Who is going to guard Giannis without KD on the floor?

yea very true. this is all BS.
fans would love to believe shorty baby face sweet curry is more valuable than 7' dude who shoots just as well. the only reason the stats can support such ridiculous arguments is because the warriors have so much talent to spare, they can probably win with both kd and curry out...and then it will look like klay is more valuable than curry and durant. the real point is they are so stocked with talent that they can have any major injury and still win. so now curry has to score a little more than with kd.

if anything, it just proves curry and the others are coasting most of the time, and only have to exert a special level of effort once in a while when it looks like they will lose. compare this to mj or kobe or other past greats who had WAY more responsibility and couldnt afford to coast most of the time. such nonsense.

It's mainly Klay and Steph.
They built their offense around them as creator 1/2.
When KD comes in, he becomes creator 1. Steph moves to 1A or 2. Klay a distant 3. Many times this throws off their team.

Still they're unbeaten with KD in a playoff series.

They've been beaten by LBJ/Cavs without KD (although it was a 3-1 come from behind loss),

This level of play is not sustainable. They wouldn't be playing this well with KD helping keep everyone's workload smaller during the season and earlier rounds. They'd be looking tired like Portland right now.

So yes, they're playing great, beautiful looking basketball right now. And might even be able to win the title even if KD doesn't return. But without him being there the whole season the team wouldn't be as fresh and would not be looking nearly as good. I'm not a KD fan but he clearly makes them better.

They trailed for the majority of the WCF and came back from at least a 15 point deficit in 3 of the 4 games. Against a team that was not supposed to be playing in the WCF. They aren't better without a top3 player in Durant.

Better? No.
They play basketball with more ball movement because they have to now.
With KD they didn't need to do that they could pretty much destroy teams with sheer individual talent

Better? No. Just happier. And more natural. But you don’t get better losing KD.

Then why are they significantly worse without Curry and with KD than vice versa? I don’t know if they are better without KD but they might be just as good.

When you are happier and playing more naturally it often leads to better results.

The ass whooping they received from LeBron and Kyrie after going up 3-1 says otherwise; this comeback had never happened in the history of the sport before, and it happened to a historically great 73-9 team. You don't make your team better by removing a top 3 player in the league (and the best player on the team) regardless of how people try to explain it.

Because Curry is the one that runs the offense - an offense tailored to his style of play. The teams identity hasn't really changed to suit KD but rather adapts for stretches to allow him to be great and do his thing.

Curry is essentially the QB. And no matter how good the rest of the team is, a HOF RB wont be able to fill the hole that the QB leaves; he's not built to run the offense, he's built to be the best guy out there and kill the opponent.

I wouldn’t call losing on a last second shot in a game 7 an ass whooping but that’s neither here nor there. The fact LeBron did something historic is irrelevant to the discussion at hand.

He’s not the best player on the team. Quite frankly, I don’t even think there is a debate about who’s most valuable to the Warriors. Their record without him speaks for themselves and the eye test matches it. He’s an all-time talent, but he’s closer to the 3rd most important player than 1st.
